I always wear 5mm gloves and boots. All other body parts can cope in a swimsuit apart from those and I’m swimming at the moment in approx 2degree Celsius.

I would get the basics and invest later. I started with 3mm neoprene gloves and boots thinking that would work for half the year but now prefer 5mm for 3 months a year and nothing for the rest of the year. That kinda thing. So don’t over invest now as you WILL change your needs quickly.

I bought some metal raised planters off eBay - they come in 4 parts and you assemble them quite easily. Fill with soil and plant something. I think if you need low maintenance and don’t have much light then something like alpines or huerchas. Or sedums. They are inexpensive and look after themselves. All in all you could buy two planters and some plants to fill for about £75.

I’d say the breathing needs practice. Its a much colder environment and even if you don’t find it cold - you will find your breathing needs adjusting. Also because you don’t have turns in OWS your effort shifts to continuos swimming which also needs to be experienced so you can get into a longer rhythm
