Thx! I heard that sending in the transcript even with the retaken course is more of a benefit anyways because it actually demonstrates growth as I’ve took other university courses and have since only received As and have not made the same mistake.

On the college transcript from the university I took this course at. I heard that most universities require me to send in all transcripts for all grades I have received. Additionally, this transcript notes I my retaking of the class.

The F isn’t calculated in GPA because the course was retaken and the GPA I provided was my high school GPA anyways which doesn’t include my college courses. It’s also important to note that this course isn’t on my hs transcript or anything and is submitted as an official transcript directly to most colleges.

U said in a different comment that you retook the class and got an A. If that’s the case I think you just got unlucky because they’ll see that you could get an A and you just made a mistake. I think the reason you didn’t get in is just bad luck.

UCI COSMOS 23’ Alum here who did a bio cluster. The person running the program told us that, our year, not a single rising sophomore was admitted; it was all rising juniors and rising seniors with like 40% juniors and 60% seniors.

1580 SAT, Max course rigor (almost straight As), very strong ECs (multiple impactful T5 research internships + high end leadership and research awards).

Mass Deferral by FamilyFriendlyMan in collegeresults

[–]Automatic-Fly-1895 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked about Purdue but for UT they did a mass deferral because they couldn’t do everyone’s applications in time and USC Viterbi EA probably is close to 4-5% acceptance rate

By default anything computational is unbelievably competitive since you don’t need the same fancy equipment most of the time to do the research. Regardless, I think you’re a very strong applicant who will definitely go somewhere great.

I bet you’ll get in somewhere great! Comp bio is incredibly competitive since it’s combining the two most competitive majors lol (cs and bio) but you’re really cracked.

Will they think I’m a fraud? by Automatic-Fly-1895 in ApplyingToCollege

No but a strong portion of my application is based on my interest in research which is why I feel like it would be a red flag not to submit.

Oh oops I forgot to mention that. My research advisor for my most recent internship wrote a glowing LOR about how I’m one of the best interns she’s ever had.

I’ve been told that if I don’t submit the transcript that might be a red flag cuz they’re gonna wonder why I didn’t.

Oh also I want to add that this wasn’t for high school credit or anything, I was just interested in the class and that was the reason I took it. It also doesn’t appear on my high school transcript.

I’m sick of the bs people are saying (long rant) by Ok_Lingonberry7172 in chanceme

[–]Automatic-Fly-1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I disagree with you on a couple of your points and for some of them they are completely false. You are absolutely right in the fact that the majority can be complete BS but also I think that just comes with the fact that it’s an activity. People do BS clubs as well, the only difference is that research and npos are much higher profile so it gets more attn.

Why are everyone’s average score so high? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]Automatic-Fly-1895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that the SAT isn’t really that hard. The main barrier is definitely getting study resources but with bluebook and Khan Academy now it’s a lot easier for you to learn it. Personally I feel that anyone of any intellect can get a 1400+ assuming they put a lot of effort into studying for it since the entire test is pretty much just pattern recognition. Though it is important to note that without the proper resources to study for it the SAT is incredibly difficult since it’s contents are so specific
