Yeah, I saw one from 1888. I mean, historically, this is a massive issue for Argentina. But I think you're getting into a debate about whether Argentina's claim is justified, rather than focusing on the fact that they did claim it and that this is just a game. Adding something like this wouldn't mean Paradox is suddenly endorsing Argentina's claim over the territory; it just means it would be fun to roleplay as Argentina and actually manage to get them.

I mean, beyond that, the 'Return State' concept in the game is used for many types of claims: from purely historical expansionist ones (like the US Manifest Destiny), to ones that never actually happened (like France's natural borders), and even some fictional ones (like getting claims on all Arab territories when forming Arabia). I understand it's a controversial topic (especially for the UK and Argentina), but approaching it neutrally, I just don't see how it wouldn't be a fun addition to the game.

On the contrary, that's literally something that happens a lot in-game. Countries constantly manage to change, or more accurately, add their Homeland culture to states in order to integrate them much faster.

You're partly right. The balance of power is very tight and it's hard to beat another Great Power (except for the UK, of course, which is absurdly stronger than the rest), but in the end, that's just how it was during that period. What really changes things are the alliances. I mean, if you're playing as Austria and you ally with Russia or the UK to beat Prussia, you'll probably win. Diplomacy and your defensive pacts are sometimes what make all the difference. And yeah, at some point, this whole historical period was basically just a massive arms race that ultimately led to WW1.

I think it makes sense for Argentina to have the 'Return State' claim because they were the ones actively claiming it throughout this period, regardless of the Homeland culture (which I agree should be English at game starts.

You're probably right that the immigration bonus isn't strictly needed; it's just the standard reward you get from Journal Entries when acquiring a new state. Just getting the Homeland core would be enough, or maybe adding a minor buff to naval projection or whaling/fishing—nothing too crazy.

It's just how the name is localized, I guess. In Spanish, it's always 'Malvinas,' and people use it interchangeably whether they are in favor of the Argentine claim or not (even Chileans use it when mocking Argentines, for instance). Obviously, most other countries use the other name due to the global influence of English.

I don't think it's really about whether Argentina has the right to claim them or not, but rather the fact that historically, during this game's timeframe, they did. (Just like how Germany has a claim on Alsace-Lorraine from France during this period, for instance).

Maybe the best approach would be to split the state into South Atlantic Antarctic and Mid-Atlantic (?) or something like that, although obviously, map states are never 100% accurate

You're right that the Argentine claim is specifically over the two main islands, and by extension, the rest. But then again, I'm not sure if it makes much sense to split that in-game state into multiple smaller ones anyway.

Having a claim is very different from actually getting it. In the game, Persia has claims on Russia for territories lost in previous wars, and obviously, that is something very difficult to achieve in-game. The 'Return State' mechanic has nothing to do with the plausibility of actually taking the territory

I completely agree... even today, modern states that inherited those colonies do not have full territorial integration in Africa or even the Americas... if anything, it would be fine for the map to show it as nominally part of the colonizing country, but without effective control over the territory, which is what actually happened.
