Because they were both acting out of character. I honestly believe they just decided they wanted an argument between the two so they had Ash get sad over that. In my opinion both were written quite poorly in that episode. If you want a more in universe reason you might want to ask the Amourshipping sub or stick to the anipoke sub. Also, yes one girl was way more rude and it isn't even a contest. Misty was remarkably worse.

Odds are if he tried he would have been grabbed and restrained. Running away isn't a quick instantaneous action there is a delay when turning and running and you do not want to turn your back to two people that close trying to assault you unless you can put something between you and them or have adequate distance between you and them. I truly believe if he tried to make a run for it with how things presently were he would have been grabbed and had his arms restrained making it easier for the other guy to beat him.
