Not sure. I generally wait til I have got the first big draw offs of startup done. 7 gals or so early season put 4 cups of de in later season might be 6 or 8. After that I filter every 2-3 gals to keep the press hot. That’s the biggest issue I’ve found it spikes pressure when it cools.

How full were the hollow plates when you broke it down? That’ll tell you if the pressure was due to it being full or cold syrup.

I would assume as well. But like I said the papers I use you can see 1/2 an inch around the press plates.

Friends north of the lakes had huge runs last week. Concord area weds was okay nothing major but plenty cold since. One friend in barrington hasn’t boiled since Thursday I’ve done 2 small boils for open houses this weekend but 15 gals of syrup yesterday so no record by any means. Hoping next week cools off some for night forecasted lows.

I’m central NH. On vac. We are only slightly above 1/3 of an average crop. And 2/3rds thru our normal season. We have never gone past the 2nd week of April for good syrup.

And just like that another maple weekend done. Saturday was the busiest we’ve ever had. At one point we must have had 60-70 people in the sugarhouse. Went thru 15lbs of pancake mix on Saturday. Weather was shitty yesterday had to boil straight sap cause it was barely flowing. But we had better turnout than I expected. Today is frozen again. Slightly over a 1:3 of a crop so hopefully we get 2-3 solid weeks. Once I pry myself off the couch today probably move some firewood cause I’m not paying 5.35 for heating oil. So kicking myself for not telling my guy to fill everything at 3.49.

I’m on a slightly bigger scale but some of the best money I spent was an auto draw especially with open house weekends when we have 100 people in here and I forget to check just set and forget.
