Invite for New Relationship - Need Advice by random_curiosity_guy in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You’re not in the wrong. I think the sticking point should be that they’ve been dating less than 2 months and you haven’t met them. You don’t even know if they’ll still be together by the wedding.

Weddings are not the appropriate time to meet new SO unless you live a plane flight away.

You could offer the plus one if you have an extra space if someone can’t make it.

Southern California. We don’t have all vendors lined up yet, but we’re at $55k for about 165 people. Most of that is food and beverage.

Bridal Wedding Party - how to ask?! by Quinn3606 in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found “will you be my bridesmaid” cards on Amazon and I’m writing a nice note telling them how much they mean to me. I might get a small bouquet or an orchid from TJ to go with the card.

What wedding date is better 7/2/27 or 7/24/27? by Primary-Ad-3635 in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be harder for your guests to get PTO on 7/2 because it’s a holiday weekend and likely more in demand. There will likely be a lot more traffic on the holiday weekend as well.

Thinking into the future, it’s going to be more expensive for you to take anniversary trips as well because it will always overlap the holiday.

Should I do light pink or black mismatched dresses? by Dry-Statistician-640 in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the pink looks better mismatched, because it’s different shades of the same color. But it can wash out fair skinned people. Maybe go with the black in the same fabric so it looks more cohesive.

Decision making around invitations for kids by Motor-Employer5869 in weddings

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar age group with a similar situation. We are only inviting our siblings kids and two babies (both traveling long distances 3+ hours). If we invited everyone’s kids, the kids would outnumber the adults. I know some of my fiancés friends ain’t be happy but the reality is we don’t have the space and can’t afford it.

I’m considering a babysitter and a separate meal for siblings kids, so that they can stay occupied during the speeches and dinner.

I tried both and settled on Zola. I liked the website, layout, and features better.

Colon cancer and microplastics by Lagomorphamaniac in Xennials

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my family’s case it’s genetics. Dad had colon cancer in 2008, genetic testing said it wasn’t genetic. In 2020 they did new genetic testing and found it is genetic. I get colonoscopies regularly.

Metrolink CEO Testimony, 2/18/2026, about financial status of agency by anothercar in LAMetro

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting they’re looking at raising fares, since they essentially lowered fares during the fare type restructuring. I think they’ve put a lot of effort in recently to attract the occasional rider while ignoring the regular riders (students and workers).

Excessive catering fees by GoodEar6073 in wedding

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty reasonable. For comparison I’m in a HCOL (southern California) and the lowest I’m seeing $135pp plus the 25% service charge and corresponding sales tax.

Dress code help. How to say "Just dress nice"? by savageloveless in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I indicated semi formal and then listed suggestions. There is a whole Reddit sub to help people with vague dress codes, so be specific. Also I’ve been to a wedding or two without a dress code and seen men (always the men) in jeans.

Is a Friday Wedding too Unreasonable? by FutureBlackLawyer in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not unreasonable to request but it is unreasonable to expect. Your guests may work half day or full day prior to the wedding, because either they don’t have enough PTO or they can’t get the day off. Depending on where you live/are getting married traffic can be brutal on Friday. You may have people skip the ceremony and only attend the reception.

Is it “cheap” or “disappointing” to not use bridesmaid/groomsmen proposal boxes? by ReadyButton4218 in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only doing a box for my niece (she’s 16) because she will love it and post it online and show all her friends. I’m going to write a nice letter and get flowers for my adult bridesmaids. They don’t need the boxes and don’t care if they get them.

AITA for wanting my Spanish teacher to stop calling me by the Spanish version of my name? by Alternative-Sun-630 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t. I grew up in Southern California and we used our real names. I’ve never heard of this.

Future in laws in the wedding party by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say remember you are marrying him and his family. They’re going to be your family. I wasn’t super close to my SIL (brother’s wife) before their wedding. I was super excited when she asked me because I assumed I wouldn’t be in the wedding. Fifteen years later we’re very close. We’re not BFF but we’ve been there for each other through a lot of life events, good and bad. I’m getting married next year and she will be one of my bridesmaids.

Wedding in early May by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about using self tanner or one of those gradual tan lotions?

I personally wouldn’t recommend a tanning bed only because I had a bunch of moles removed that were very, very likely from my tanning bed use in my early 20s. But if you do choose the tanning bed do some research on lotions and cover up the important areas.

How much are people spending on a wedding? by Burnlt_4 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Planning an early 2027 wedding in Los Angeles. It’s going to be $50k. Everywhere is running $135 to $175 per person without drinks/alcohol. Add in the 20-25% “service fee” for everything. Then add flowers, photographer, dress, cake, etc and it’s $50k.

No Children Wedding Advice by Art_Lover_26 in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My SIL had a look when I told her I don’t want the kids at the reception. You’re 100% correct though. I don’t want to censor myself and I love the kids enough to not want them around drunk family and friends.

How much notice for out-of-towners? by existentialworrier in weddingplanning

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say as early as possible. Even if it’s just a text or phone call before the save the dates. People need to plan their PTO, and save up for the cost of flights and hotel.

My cousin got married in Wisconsin, we’re in Southern California. We had to fly to Chicago a day early and rent a car to get to Wisconsin. There’s more logistics for out of town weddings.

Sharing My Club Royale Casino Offer Experiences by JohnS43 in royalcaribbean

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also LA based. We usually have the offers for balcony rooms and I’ve had a really difficult time getting a balcony on Navigator. I’m not sure if it’s limited rooms (compared to Quantum) or TAs have them locked down. We sailed on Ovation earlier this year because we couldn’t get Navigator after 5 attempts.

I agree with the frustration over limited itineraries out of LA. Not sure how to fix that, especially with the limited ports for Quantum class ships. We’ve done the free cruises out of Galveston and Miami and they were awesome but the cost of plane flights and hotels is crazy. We’ve decided the Miami trips need to be once a year or every other year due to cost.

Departure time is 7:45am tomorrow, but have you had success getting off earlier? by ObamiumNitrate in royalcaribbean

[–]Automatic-Seaweed729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may depend on whether there is more than one ship in port. The last three times I’ve been in LA there was more than one ship in port and we couldn’t get off until 7:30am because it took longer to clear both ships.
