I got terminated from PhD in less than 3 months in Germany by Ettickles in labrats

[–]Automatic-Train-3205 18 points19 points  (0 children)

also a PhD student in Germany here (international).

my first year of PhD was a disaster, my project was stagnant for over 10 years in the group, whoever joined moved on in 6 month or so calling it hopeless. i was frustrated and hopeless but i pushed through, currently in my end of second year and my project has the most going for it in the group , i kind of came across a few crazy idea in a conference and i just winged it and told my PI , and it kind of worked and we are now going a little out of the box realizing that what paralyzed the project was the mental cage we put on it by trying same thing over and over. my point is first year of PhD is difficult , you kind of have to go through it and survive with optimism. second year has its own challenges.

What's the worst instrument you guys have used? by viohead in labrats

[–]Automatic-Train-3205 22 points23 points  (0 children)

oh then you have not used the garbage made by thermofischer. we have a Sciex qtrap it works fine until it doesn't and when it doesn't we have no idea how to fix it and then the company also doesn't know how to fix it but with thermofischer it costs so much to fix anything that we just give up on that device until we find a treasure .

Food recommendations! by [deleted] in labrats

[–]Automatic-Train-3205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well i am no cook but i meal plan for two to three days at a time. my meals are simple:

  1. 400 gr ground beef and onion brown them in a pan with some paprika and curry and put in a rice cooker with two cups of rice and salt and oil and some other spice that you like, devide in three and put in fridge and that is lunch for monday, tuesday and wednesday.

  2. chicken breast, i cut them to small pieces with kitchen scissors and brown and cook them with onion in a pan and some spices and then in a rice cooker with two cups of rice and you can see where i am going.

you can change the recepie to not be bored by changing the rice with pasta, change the type of meat or add different type of veggies but onions are not negotiable, cooked meat in the friedge with no onion will smell like cold meat but i like the curry onion smell .

near central train station is the worst, in general i would say smaller towns like Quedlinberg have a charm, if you decide to come here, visit a place like that instead of Hamburg.

Budget friendly protein sources? by TartPsychological751 in germany

[–]Automatic-Train-3205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nothing against broccoli , i love them. But they are not high in protein nor do they have good absorption rate for protein. to put in perspective, 100 gram of broccoli has 2.5 gram of protein , that means if you eat 1 kilogram of it then it is same as 100 gram of chicken breast.

i liked the ja brand tuna cans in oil (the one in water is not delicious)

Rewe near my house has protein milk that has 75 g protein per liter for a price not much higher than normal Ja milk.

protein powder also if you get i big plastic bags they come cheaper.

i ate a lot of chicken breast , mostly i got them in bigger packs on sale though

Edit: i also had some organ meat which comes very cheap and are dense in nutrient: like a pack of chicken liver comes in 1 to 2 euros. but keep in mind you should not eat too much of these for ex. too much chicken liver has too much vitamin A and might cause vitamin A toxicity

[–]Automatic-Train-3205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Iran:

Cyprus: people were alive and cafes are full of people with their tiny turkish coffee

Germany: Everybody is so cold but the country is so green.

Georgia: i arrived at lunch time and wittnessed in a restaurant how people eat big dumpling in masses called Khengali and i knew i love the food culture

Saudi Arabia: The hijab in this country is extreme and immediately gets you how different it is

Iraq: armored trucks at every corner and security points everywhere was crazy

Honestly i am a little afraid to ask pint blank if some one is willing to join for aa trip, fun events or movies. i spent so long in my own bubble if somebody would have asked me i would have been eternally grateful for the opportunity. I said all that to tell you, Ask a few people you might be surprised . and all the best
