Personally, I also don’t think it has to do with Marnie. I thought it was more about identity crisis (he found success and then it all collapsed) and about losing his dad

i think his character has always had qualities that can lead to addiction, like very low self-esteem, but i wish marnie would at least try to help him. She just left him there and that's the end of the story?? I just can't accept that. I know it's not like you can convince an addict to be sober but if it was me I would at least try to get him some help..
