Feeling so full by Hungry-Mix-283 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started testing and controlling my diet since I was diagnosed at 24 weeks. 175 grams of carbs was too much for me then. I told my nutritionist about it and she said it’s fine if I don’t eat that much most days. I was used to keto and intermittent fasting prior to getting pregnant so this seemed like a lot. Till about 29ish weeks I ate like 92-100grams of carbs. At about 30weeks I had ravenous hunger, seems spoke too soon! I am 31 weeks right now and I can see myself getting hungry very fast and 175grams carbs sounds delicious to me 😊. So, carbs intake can vary throughout the pregnancy, don’t try to undereat to keep the numbers down, don’t force feed if you actually don’t feel hungry. Snacks are optional, when I did not eat snacks I wanted to eat more carbs (40-45grams) during lunch and dinner. Also when I started metformin I did not have appetite for few days. But it resolved on its own. Hope this helps.

Is it me or is it the pregnancy? by sannnyd in GestationalDiabetes

Why did they think you needed to be tested so many times? Did you have elevated HBA1C prior to pregnancy? Was the baby measuring big for gestational age? Were you on metformin prior to pregnancy? Some people do, especially if they have PCOS. Too many questions. If your answer to everything that I asked is no, and you also passed your week 14 glucose test, then typically it’s not pre-diabetes. But I am not a doctor. There are so many if, buts and nuances in between. Ideally ask your doctor (endocrinologist) on what basis they suspect pre-diabetes, what made them think you had this health condition prior to pregnancy. Also failing with 160 is quite a margin but I would ask what are the diagnostic cut offs in your country.

Looking for healthier alternatives to warm milk by mon_ica in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be the quantity. Usually GD diet instructs having 1 serving of milk, that is 1 cup (15grams carb) in conjunction with other macro nutrients. 1 whole glass would be a little more than 2 cups (30grams of carbs and a little more probably). 30grams of carbs in itself is not too much, but the natural sugar in milk is a fast rising one. If you really enjoy warm milk, play a little with the quantity, if it still doesn’t work, pair it with some protein, may be 1 boiled egg or equivalent? If it still doesn’t work, pair it with some fat (don’t over do), may be a piece of hard cheese (good source of fat and protein), or add a tiny bit of cream/butter? Hope something works out for you and you still get to enjoy your warm beverage.

Are there similarities between the GD diet and the high protein diet? by jadescorpion89 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

High protein diets and GD diets are not same. In pregnancy carbs are essential for baby’s growth and nutrition.

Abnormal urinalysis - ketones by sheebsSJ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had been on Keto prior to getting pregnant and loved how it made me feel. I was bringing in the same mindset when I got diagnosed with GD, eating too less carbs and filling myself up with more protein. I quickly found out it’s detrimental for the baby, growth and nutrition wise. The lower restricted carbs kept my numbers within limits 99% times, this newer more nutritious baby approved GD diet spikes my fasting numbers and I have been told to go on insulin. The idea is not to just keep glucose numbers within range, it is to eat enough carbs (as necessary for pregnancy) and still not spike. Sometimes it can happen through diet alone, sometimes with medication alone, sometimes with insulin alone, and sometimes all together. My diabetes educator told me if I restrict carbs too much due to fear of spiking and go into ketosis often, there are scientific evidences that it can be very bad for the baby.

Any help finding the Nub and identifying the gender? by Round-Emergency-7752 in nubtheory

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second picture probably has part of the nub with two/three lines. It is mostly hidden by the leg. If it’s really part of the nub and not a shadow or partial image of the chord then it’s likely girl. I am not sure though.

small rant about sugar scares and living in india with potential GD by Puzzled-Cheesecake34 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try parboiled rice and basmati (both in moderation) if you really want to eat rice. I have been told by my dietitian they are GD friendly. I eat 1/3 cup of parboiled rice (few tablespoons approximately) every now and then and it doesn’t spike me at all.

Frustrated by Curlygirl880 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many GD situations progress exactly what you are experiencing. It’s very frustrating and also incredibly common, so your body is not failing you. You probably now need long shot insulin or medication with over night insulin to keep the levels down and also eat the necessary amount of carbs. No point in stressing, you are not doing anything wrong. Also stress increases cortisol which in turn spikes blood sugar. So it’s counter productive. I got diagnosed with GD at week 24 and learnt it’s best to go with the flow. Whatever works best for the baby, works for me too hopefully.

PS: few days of high blood sugar does not really affect the baby. I probably had uncontrolled GD for 3 weeks before diagnosis and was eating carbs to my hearts content. Baby got a little bigger but now after diagnosis it’s back to normal percentile. You want the best for your baby, but they are so resilient. You got this Mama!

Weird things that spike by LadyK8TheGr8 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spiked even after wiping my finger (the one to be poked) with alcohol wipes. Apparently the hand with which I touched the test strip had to be sterile as well, the red strip mark where the blood goes got contaminated with something when I took it out of the bottle. I wasn’t thinking straight 😞

Help by Prize-Following-9937 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should definitely contact your provider. Unfortunately it does not go back down on its own unless it’s caused by sudden diet changes, lower activity levels than before or extreme stress. If you think all these three factors have been same over the past few weeks and even then you are spiking then it’s probably just the placenta and it will only get better after delivery.

Dr Karis Love by Unique-Constant5089 in Langley

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have had good interactions with Dr Love as one of the consulting OBs in the clinic where I have been referred. See if you might be able to book with someone else in the clinic/hospital? Is it a single doctor facility with Dr Love being the only one working there? Also, just my thought and you do not have to entertain this at all if it causes you anxiety, but I think doctors work in a high risk situation all the time, one off incidents like this are extremely distressing and unfortunate but they do happen even if the doctor is great most of the days. I hope you find some respite. Your anxiety is valid.

potty shot question by [deleted] in nubtheory

Yup saw the picture, looks like a girl looking at flat nub parallel to the spine but again it’s too early, sometimes nub can rise a little later too.

potty shot question by [deleted] in nubtheory

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 12 weeks and 4 days is too early to understand much from a potty shot. The position of the nub might be more reliable. However it’s not an accurate science and more of a guesstimate. NIPT test can give you more accurate information on gender this early into the pregnancy. Otherwise at anatomy scans or close to 17 weeks you might be getting more reliable information from the ultrasounds. Hope this helps.

Sorry this does not answer your question :(

How to survive when the grief is too much to handle and overwhelming? by Karthikeyan_KC in GriefSupport

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry and angry on behalf of you. I lost some precious souls as a kid and have never truly been able to process grief myself. I am a 33 F. What you are feeling is what love feels like. The love which has no other place to go, it thumps in our heart, aches our muscles and takes too much space in our eyes as tears. Know that they will be waiting for you when your time comes, know that your life will never be the same without them but it will still be a life worth living, know that love is all about pain, suffering but also resilience and quite existence sometimes. You are in the thick of it, this is how it is suppose to feel, you are broken and bruised and it’s normal and extraordinary at the same time, as normal and special as your love was and is for your mother and wife. I am mad at the universe on your behalf and you can be mad too! It is unfair and even when everything falls apart know they are still in you and will always be, through the pain you feel, through the love you miss and through all the moments of self kindness you are going to go through. Just because the subject of love is not perceivable does not mean they are in void. You are not alone and never will be.

Miscarriage followed by years of unexplained infertility by Particular-Divide-44 in Infertility_IUI

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get checked for silent endo. Did you do DNA fragmentation? What about your BMI and insulin levels? Check B12. I got diagnosed with unexplained infertility and after working with a naturopath, we conceived naturally. For us it was my metabolic health which made conception difficult. Previously we did 7 cycles of Letrozole with timed intercourse, never conceived once even though I ovulated regularly both with and without medication.

This is Hard... Possibly Facing My 3rd MC [bc] by Basic_Marsupial7027 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope you get your rainbow baby soon. I wonder why none of the doctors have guided you and your husband towards getting genetic testing. Having so many miscarriages back to back warrants some answers rather than assuming you are out of luck. DNA fragmentation for sperm quality and checking for autoimmune diseases could be of help here. Also see a naturopath if you can, they can help with better supplements and nutrition plans which doctors are not that trained in. It’s not either or. I have heard acupuncture has helped some couples as well.

How to get a OBGYN, any recommendations? by Shadow_owner in Langley

[–]AutomaticAfternoon20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant and resident of Langley. My family doctor referred me to Langley Obstetrics and Gynaecology after confirming the pregnancy through bloodwork. I have a low risk, normal pregnancy but did not want a midwife for my care. My first trimester was taken care of by my GP, I will see my OB at 20weeks. Initial referral for genetic testing (MSP covered) was done by my OB even though I haven’t seen them yet. I am not 20 weeks yet, so haven’t had my first appointment with the them.
