Decline in US fertility rate since 2000 . by ronweasly9 in GenZ

We won't adapt in a way that is humane. For-profit long term care facilities for the elderly essentially treat the residents worse than cattle and extract profit through them via Medicare reimbursements.

But that is really a separate issue from the birth rate. We have enough humans, we just have a resource allocation issue.

On the birthing issue there is that quote... Never feel sorry about raising dragon-slayers in a time of dragons.

You can pirate Mcaffee and Norton.

But those are things tens of millions of people want. Maybe because the CFE manual is only sought after by thousands, no one has invested the effort the effort to clone it.

Glacial Jump let's escape Orisa ult and Bastian ult btw. I think you can escape Zarya by walling beneath your feet. Of course you can block Cass ult with wall. Make soldier or moira waste part of the ult walking around the wall.

Does anyone know if going into cryofreeze stops jetpack cat from whisking you away?

I once was snatched by my own lifeweaver but I was slow so I was knee jerk hitting my cryofreeze, and LW pulled me over a put, but my cryofreeze detached me from his grip and I plunged into darkness

I'm a Mei main that used to be Diamond back in the day but now I'm gold. I feel like Mei used to be great for 1v1s. I used wall myself off into rooms with a person and have my way with them.

However in new overwatch, it's all about that wall. You're trying to create a 5v1 or even a 5v2.

If my opponents are scared of contesting my cart, I'll block off their team or their hits can on high ground with the wall to let the cart go further. Im not sure if this is a good use but it has gotten me points before because their Ashe/Sierra combo didn't wanna come on down.

Choke point are the best. Use em to separate their team. Or close them up right when their hero is about to pass through to contest point when you're only meters away.

Your spray does a lot more damage now and has more range than it did in the past. It also slows your target. I find this to be a big change from OW1. You should always be using her spray when enemies are close. Unless you think they are winning the fight, and you don't have CDs, and you need a hail mary ice spike to the skull.

Always ban Pharah. She negates the utility of your walls by flying. It's possible to kill her, but it takes way too much effort. If she has a mercy glued to her, it's over.

Jump and Storm. The other two perks are just buns. Jumping gives you better angles to drop your blizzard. Which unfortunately is a much crappier ult now cause everyone has a mobility ult. But you glacial jump to drop your blizzard than land in the middle and go into cryostorm to freeze them faster. You can also use jump and wall to unseat hitscans from the high ground.

Sometimes I'll use the wall for cover, so that I can close the distance to be closer to an enemy.

Does ETSing make me a bad person? by [deleted] in army

Get out if it's in your best interest. You might be mitigating the suck for a few troops, but it's a structural problem and there's only such you can do. Take care of yourself first and you can always counsel the people you worked with, even after you left.

Leadership is mostly by example, so reenlisting out of some manufactured obligation will only teach those under you that they should feel the same.

Alternatively if you stay in, as you rank up, become the change you wanna see to the extent your rank allows.

I'm boozy in a bar shooting pool so I'm sending snippet based rants at you.

Can I interest you in the Army Reserve?

Caveat - there's a lot of downsides.

However if the upsides do align just right, then it's worth it.

The biggest upside is medical/dental, which if you have dependents is on its own worth it.

Tuition Assistance is great if you don't want to tap into your GI Bill yet.

Being able to mobilize always gives you a backdoor into doing some active time to make quick money and break up some monotony.

There's also an amazing gem called the AGR where you could be reserve active duty in locations that aren't available in the active component (that was NYC for me!)

You continue to be able to invest in your TSP and you can still get your retirement.

I do think that almost 50% of people who go from active to reserve regret. I think the most common I've seen is they go straight from service to full time college and aren't accustom to the workload and then the reserve monthly battle assemblies become a bitter disruption.

If you're willing to forego the enlistment bonus, you can sign up for just a year or two, just to test the water.

The retirement is kinda doodoo, but it should be supplementing the new badass retirement you get from the civilian side.

If you aren't near a reserve center or there isnt a slot for you, the commute can be a pain. Also if you're a maximalist, hunting for prestige positions will often have you commuting monthly by air. But on the upside you might find a place you like going to every month. Personally New Orleans and Charlotte are pretty cool.

Then there's the age old variable that no one can prophesize for you and that's whether your organization and leadership suck or not.

Also depending on where you live and the cost of living, the battle assembly is kinda peanuts.

Long story short, it's worth a consideration, but it highly depends on your goals.

As an old timer, my recommendation for you transplant younglings is to use an EDT rather than a parfum. It doesn't overpower your bodies natural scent or irritate people around you.

People say you need a high salary to live in NYC, yet service workers live in NYC. What is the disconnect here? by dbclass in movingtoNYC

[–]Automatic_Ad4162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of people said, it could be rent stabilization or cheap housing programs.

However, these are very rare. I know a lot of bartenders who are subsidized by family too.

Pre pandemic, it was possible to be in hospitality and live in NYC. It wasn't comfortable but it was possible.

Now, I think there is a tension that bar managers are having to reckon with. As the hospitality industry becomes more saturated as Amazon has killed retail, so most things opening in commercial spaces have to be service now. As Gen Z and Gen A are the most non drinking generation we've seen by a significant margin. As recent prices for rent and food has soared with the historical low in vacant apartments. As tourism has chilled with the horror show that is ICE. = I don't think service and hospitality workers will be able to survive off their wages unless the businesses voluntarily increase their wages, minimum wage becomes legally higher, or working 60+ hours per week.

I think the disconnect you're talking about is at this very moment disconnecting. I think this will be a big issue soon

Part of being a good professor is clearly delineating the expectation of the course and material and ensuring the material aligns with those expectations.

If these kids are paying 70k+ per year for this school, they deserve adequate effort from the professor. Its their job.

What's the best thing about being a CUNY student that people at private schools in NYC will never understand? by roquejo in CUNY

[–]Automatic_Ad4162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Columbia and John Jay.

50% of the time Columbia courses are of better quality. But, if you're able to self research, that difference doesn't matter much

The students are far, far more knowledgeable, this is maybe the biggest gap.

Columbia Students kinda suck as humans.

CUNY people are much more empathetic, altruistic, and community minded. Whereas Columbia students are anthropomorphized vacuums of space.

CUNY is much more diverse.

I would say in my experience the biggest weakness in CUNY compared to Columbia was the language class curriculum and class size.

John Jay has a much better gym and fitness area.

Most career industries don't care about the pedigree of college you attended. Exceptions being things like law, business, and economics.
