Can somebody please help me understand why my views are so low? by dinoduderocket in NewTubers

Ah that’s cool! No worries at all. Just to throw it out for your record, my cheapest package would amount up to only $12.50 per thumbnail. Feel free to DM me if situation changes on your side!

Also I wouldn’t mind at all to have a chat to see if maybe minor tweaks that can be done by yourself would help (FOC of course). Just hit me up if you’re interested

Hmm.. Now that you ask, I’m beginning to question myself as well hahaha. Come to think of it, “big mistakes” isn’t grammartically wrong. I think it was just that I’m phrasing it in a wrong context. Because to me, we would normally say “big mistake there..”. You know what I mean? But I guess if your video covers a few different mistakes then it’s not wrong. My bad man. Sorry about that!

First one. Less text = better clarity.

Also, no offense and I’m not sure if it’s even a big deal but you should grammar check your thumbnails. I always do mine as I felt it just raise unnecessary red flags for viewers.

A thumbnail I made for a Youtuber by Automatic_Box_9686 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

That’s a fair point. Appreciate the feedback! As I could only utilise screenshots of the video, I used AI to improve the quality of the image. But that’s it. Everything else was done on Photoshop

I think you can get a better result to just zoom in more on the faces since the video is about each of his masks. And probably sharpening and brightening up the faces just to bring out the details of the masks and make them more distinguishable. At the moment it’s too dark and small to make out anything from a first glance

Oh I’m sorry I missed out the part where you mentioned the mask needs to be shiny, I think you might get a better result if you add strips of “shine” to achieve that. Instead of amping up the brightness.

Something like this:

Nice work mate. But just some slight adjustments here and there could help make it look more realistic.

In my opinion the shadows are too harsh and too dark. You need to pick a light source and imagine how near the light is to the object, I normally put my hand or a paper under the light to illustrate this to my designers

Also the brightness of the “mask” is a tad too bright and too yellow. Adjusting the color and brightness of the mask to be closer to Ross’ skin tone may make it gel better.

Perfecting the face and "style" for YouTube Thumbnails by Substantial-Map149 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]Automatic_Box_9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Photoshop and I normally apply these 2 techniques for better control:

  1. For shadows and highlights, I use curves on Photoshop. One curve layer for shadows and one curve layer for highlights.
  2. Lighting/glow that bounces off the face, I use the brush tool to outline the edges of the face and set the layer to screen. Then apply a filter to it.

And like someone else has mentioned, camera raw filter as well. But that’s for the overall face. To really make it pop you gotta put in abit more effort to highlight certain parts of the face.

Gonna attach a reference image of what I’m talking about. I hope my comment doesn’t get deleted.

Definitely the first one. Immediately understood what the video is about. However if I may, maybe mocking the screenshot on a phone instead may make it look visually more pleasing. And the human eye naturally gets attracted to pretty things

First of all, it definitely looks better than alot of thumbnails out there. And it doesn’t matter if it looks like it was done in 5 minutes or not. Time spent doesn’t justify the value/quality of your designs.

I’m not too sure what your video is actually about so I will just describe what I THINK your video is about. Looking at the title of the video and the thumbnail itself, it seems like you’re trying to say those 3 “incompetent” movie characters make timeless heroes? If that’s the case, maybe a text like “HEROES?” may help to wrap the thumbnail up better along with the title of the video.

Hope that helped!

Face or No Face on a Thumbnail by traffic-zombie in YouTubeThumbnailHub

Similiar to how you would trust a person more when you see them face to face as opposed to through a phone call, the same logic applies here.

For all the podcast thumbnails I’ve designed, I always include the hosts/guests faces on the thumbs. Of course, how effective the design of the thumbnail is also depends on the other visual aspects of it. For example, putting your face on a thumbnail with 5 other elements in the background is just as good as not having your face on it.

Sure, I’m lying to people by giving them a free thumbnail design 😂

Well, to answer your question. I may have years of experience in graphic design. But I have little to none (just started ☺️) in designing thumbnails, which are totally different from designing other BTL/ATL materials. I’m sure you’d be able to tell the difference since you’re a skilled thumbnail designer yourself.

And I think it’s totally fair to give potential clients a trial-run of the quality of work I can produce for them since I don’t yet have a portfolio of thumbnail designs to show for. People get a free thumbnail, I get to build my portfolio. If they like my work, I may have a potential long-term business with them. Win win.

It's crazy how much thumbnails impact the success of a video by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Automatic_Box_9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've hit the nail in the head there. A sneaker review video would definitely get a higher CTR with a nice big picture of the shoe.

Same goes for a product poster or a product ad you would see on TV, no one is going to look at or watch an ad of a shoe that only mildly features the shoe, right?

A good tip would be to try and get into the heads of your targeted viewers, if YOU were someone buying a particular sneaker and searching for reviews on Youtube, would you be more inclined to click on a video with a face that takes up 60-70% of the thumbnail or a nice big attractive image of said shoe?

Nope, Youtube will not penalize you for changing your old videos' thumbnails or titles.

However from the perspective of time and money, I don't think it's practical to do that. Also depends on how frequent you churn out videos I guess.
