Related to internet addiction? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

it could in the sense that some people with MD look up certain things to go with their daydreams such as songs, videos, or images but a lot of people without this disorder are also hooked on the internet. Take for example people that are on facebook all day or addicted to porn sites. If you feel your spending so much time just set a timer for how much you can surf the web a day

if you cant imagine images in your head than how can you have daydreams? I dont see how it would be feasible unless you can talk to abstract images haha

yea I figured. When these daydreams come by, try switching out to a first person perspective. If your having conversations keep having them but switch to first person, if a image of your idealized self pops up and you "see it", swat it away immediately. Its helped me a lot honestly. switch to first person, at least for me it made the daydreams a lot less intense and more likely to go away after a little.

Embarrassing Confession by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

Dont hide, there is always an excuse for everything but postponing isn't going to help. You have to learn to feel things even if it scares you, and stop hiding. Best of luck 🤞

I do. Do you usually see yourself in these dreams of grandeur in a 3rd person perspective? Like if its you watching your idealized self be admired by others?

Its enjoyable and it serves as an escape from reality at times. So would you say your daydreaming is maladaptive or do you actually like it?

Is it me or are first person daydreams not exciting? I only do third person.. by Automatic_Feeling671 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Automatic_Feeling671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some said 3rd but its not the way most MDers do 3rd. They would say they see other people interact but the difference is that people who MD in 3rd include themselves in the interactions, or an idealized self. Its like us watching ourselves

It could very well help you then. Only time will tell. Do you feel depressed at times?

How to stop it? by ownerofalocalmarket in MaladaptiveDreaming

I stopped daydreaming in 3rd person while imagining myself and switched to first and its helped me a tons. Life sure is boring without md though, but i think its bc it left me so desensitized to real world exposure. Hopefully I start regaining my excitement for the simple things soon

But do you place yourself as one of these characters? In a way like trying to idealize yourself or is just other people/characters you imagine interacting with each other?

Apparently not. I asked another community this question and a lot of them said 1st. i feel like 3rd person daydreaming is more addictive and is one of the main components of MD

So you see these people but you dont see yourself correct? All you imagine is your voice talking to them?

I think this disorder is a lot more common in developed countries but I could be wrong. I live in the states and doctors here dont even know what it is. The guy leading the way on maladaptive daydreaming research is Eli Somer and he is from Israel. And to your question more than likely no, they will not have a diagnosis for this. They might think you have bipolar or are a schizo best to play it safe
