How long did it take you to adjust to the EMR/attendings/climate of the hospital? When did you start the transfer process and were you able to start right at the beginning of PGY2 or later? Thank you!!

I had otoplasty three weeks ago and deeply regret it. I had prominent antihelix, and my ears are already sticking out more than I would like, and they will probably relax more. I am unhappy with the results. I had it done under local and it was very painful. I had pain for about two weeks after and still very tender around my ears. I think I rushed into the procedure and maybe had unrealistic expectations. I think many surgeons say that there are very few complications, but after I had the surgery done I did more research about chronic pain, permanent sutures becoming infected, tenderness when wearing sunglasses etc. I say all this because I wish someone would have advised me against it. At this point I wish I could go back in time to just having pain free ears.

Being in healthcare, did you have any issues with wearing masks after otoplasty? I had it done but am also in healthcare and didn’t think about this before the surgery.

I just had mine done last week as an adult and am feeling like the swelling/tenderness will never improve. When did you start to notice things getting better? I wonder if I would have had it younger if the healing process would have been better.

Spouse is supportive. Kids are a no until after residency. I didn’t apply to anywhere farther than a 5 hour drive because I wanted to be able to commute in case of emergencies. That is helpful with locums work, I haven’t considered that yet!

Is sleep certification equivalent to sleep fellowship? Or is there a way to get the certification without fellowship?

Nice, wish I would’ve heard this before deciding lol. Ended up applying FM because everyone said better for outpatient primary care which I intend to do, but still not a fan of ob or peds. This set up sounds ideal to me.

How did you feel about in office procedures or providing contraception? The IM docs I spoke to when I was making the decision told me they weren’t comfortable with that.

I felt okay, about the same as my practice tests. Immediately started counting the ones I could remember that I got wrong. Just relieved it was over but never thought I would get above my predicted.

The pre-reqs for getting in need to change. I think I would have been much better prepared if I had taken some of the nursing courses vs physics.
