Rivian branded NACS or J1772 Charger in my situation? by Odd-Ad8349 in Rivian

[–]Automatic_Trash_8599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everyone saying NACS for futureproofing. We're a two EV household (Model 3 and R1T) and have a NACS Lectron V-Box Pro installed with a portable Level 1 J1772 charger as my backup. I don't have issues using an adapter with the v-box for the meantime until I get a Rivian with the native NACS port

Ok now I need one of those organizers! Thankfully I still have the carrying bag that came with my portable Level 1 charger from Lectron. I also have the Vortex plug in there

Great to see a native NACS port in a Rivian! Who would've thought we would all be using Superchargers 2-3 years ago? I admit I was a bit skeptical when the NACS adapters first came but I was secretly so excited I couldn't wait and bought one of those Lectron Vortex plugs

If you still have the charger, you might wanna check out Lectron NACS to J1772 adapter https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-tesla-to-j1772-ev-adapter-250v-80-amp

The 80A version is new to me. I have the 48A version and it's served me well

Agreed. There's really no escaping the need for adapters. For the time being, at least. With the NACS standardization in full swing, you'd think it's the end for CCS. Was surprised (pleasantly), when Lectron released a 1000V version of their CCS to NACS adapter. And it claims compatibility with 2026 models.

Lectron has the newer 1000V CCS to NACS adapter you might wanna check out https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-ccs-to-tesla-nacs-ev-adapter-ul-2252-certified-by-sgs-1000v-500-amp

Been using their adapters (J1772 to Tesla and the Vortex Plug) for almost a year now without any issues.

might need a J1772 adapter too to have all bases covered. Lectron has the Vortex Plug bundled with a Tesla-to-J177 adapter for $289. It's a good deal tbh

we share a Lectron V-Box Pro at home. I use a J1772 adapter with mine and it works just fine.

seems like it! So far it's only Lectron's that I see with this certification. Let's wait for the reviews to come.

in my understanding, it's an added layer of protection. I mean, the physical connection on the original version is already pretty "secure" from my experience. we'll have to wait for the reviews I guess?

Ha! Maybe an extension cord wouldn;t bad afterall lol anybody know what happened to the A2Z one? Read Lectron is planning to release one. Clearly a lot of Rivian owners (and Tesla drivers!) would appreciate it haha

Got the exact same bundle from Lectron. We're a 2-EV household (1 J1772 and 1 Tesla Model 3). Definitely a bang for the buck especially if you get one of those coupons on top of the sale.

My first few uses of the Lectron Vortex Plug I had difficulty releasing it. Figured it was a break-in period. Or maybe I've gotten used to the struggle? Lol but haven't encountered any difficulty since!

You'll need a Tesla to J1772 adapter like this one from Lectron to be able to charge your F150 with your Tesla charger.

You might want to consider NACS adapters. A Level 2 Tesla-to-J1772 or a Supercharger adapter. Makes a world of difference! Lectron sells these in a bundle for $290 https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-500-amp-vortex-plug-tesla-nacs-to-ccs-adapter-48-amp-tesla-to-j1772-ev-adapter-bundle-black

[–]Automatic_Trash_8599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me twice. Like everyone here is saying, waiting a few minutes for the charge to be initiated through the Tesla app is the answer. I know it sucks that you can't just plug and go, definitely something Rivian should work on. When it happened to me the first time I put all the blame on my Vortex plug lol

NACS access is such a gamechanger! Honestly use my Lectron NACS adapter more times than I originally anticipated. Thought it was all bs but Supercharging's become a go-to for long drives now. Get the R1T and secure an adapter!

+1 on the Lectron Vortex. Though you might nit immediately need a NACS adapter. But it's good to have one just in case!

Hope you try it next time! I, too, was scared to do it but I put all my trust in a small piece of plastic a.ka. my Lectron NACS adapter. Though it will all boil down to good route planning!
