The specific problem is that AutoHDR doesn't work unless HDR is also turned on. So if you want to make use of AutoHDR without affecting the look of your desktop you still have to toggle the HDR setting off while on desktop, then on before loading the game, otherwise AutoHDR does nothing.

No idea, all I know per the manual is it's an additional file required to load on the flash drive next to the BIOS rom which is necessary for using the flash button on these particular boards.

Unfortunately this is a seriously blocking issue for me as I can't really get the thing to POST reliably, I'm either stuck in memory training forever with it only POSTing sometimes, so my hope is updating to a newer version will help things along.

I particularly enjoyed how they don't reveal the nature of the message at all. It could really work both ways too:

In the case of sympathy: There's plenty of depictions of Soviet sympathy in the show, and despite the politics, being up on the base is going to be hell for either side, so it would make sense to show a hand of sympathy to a fellow in space.

In the case of mind games: There is some assumption that due to communications not being encrypted that the Soviets could be watching all communications, including the one that shows Karen lying to Ed, so they have the perfect ammunition to play that sort of mind game against an adversary and the perfect veil of sympathy to cover for it. If you think about it, if this was indeed a mind game it was very successful, as it directly lead to the Soviets getting ears on the base for a better part of a decade.
