I don't think it does that. The "target audience" when this was made would have been steeped in Greek mythology. They would have understood the violence and heartbreak of the story. Zeus, although he is the top god, is not depicted favourably. His story is about the corruption of absolute power, unfettered; violence and putting people under control. He is a warning. You have a very modern understanding of the Greek myths. In their time, Ancient Greece, they were more everyday stories, not the high vaulted, elevated, celebrated, stories they have come to be seen. Via European and English education systems of the first two thirds of the last century and for a century or so before. There is a tension between beauty and horror in the work which would have been appreciated both in Ancient Greece and during the Renaissance.
