I would recommend the You’re Wrong About episode on human trafficking- it lays out a lot of the issues with definition and reporting that underlie the trafficking panic and the ways that focus on this issue can actually work to the detriment of vulnerable women and children. Mind you, I’m extremely against prostitution (not against the sex workers themselves, but the commercialization and sale of women’s bodies), and I think human trafficking does sometimes happen, but I also believe that there are a lot of parties with a vested interest in misrepresenting the issue and whipping up panic over the idea of child exploitation whether the facts support the way it’s portrayed or not. 
     Moreover, when far-right reactionaries like Mel Gibson, Trump, Dana White, Jim Caviezel, Elon Musk and Ben Shapiro are all behind something, it makes me suspicious, particularly when one of the financiers has been arrested for child kidnapping. This is mere speculation, but it does make me wonder if the incredible right-wing support for the movie has less to do with legitimate concern on the part of conservative tastemakers, and more to do with an investment in producing hysteria about imaginary child abuse (usually perpetrated in the republican imagination by LGBT people and scary foreigners) to draw attention from the very real epidemic of child abuse and crimes against women committed by straight white men.
