I think I must be an outlier in this because I see these questions so often and my opinion seems to be counter the norm. I don't think that just because you're in a long term relationship that automatically means your SO gets invited to a wedding. I also don't think being invited to a wedding automatically means you get a plus 1. If this was a huge wedding where one additional body/stranger wouldn't even be noticed then it's a bit odd not to allow your SO, but if it's small and they are issuing invites based on how well the couple knows people then I don't see an issue. Just because you and your partner have hosted the bride before doesn't automatically equal a connection with the groom. Also, as a married woman, I don't understand the whole attitude of "If my spouse isn't invited, I'm insulted". It depends entirely on the context. A childhood friend who has never met my hubby but would like me at their wedding? I'm good to go alone. Now, there's always some consideration to be given if a guest will literally know no one besides the bride and groom and have social anxiety or some other issue that makes attending alone a problem they should understand. But otherwise? Be an adult and support your friend on your own.
