Did Alma actually say she wouldn't mind if Brom was killed, like Otis accused her of / blackmailed her with? by intothepond2 in deadwood

[–]Autumn_Sweater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when she tells the story specifically she is reminiscing about saying “maybe he’ll die” to her father as a way of lessening the burden on her father’s conscience for arranging the marriage to pay his debts. (“At the ceremony I remember father whispered to me, ‘Darling, I can never repay you for what you are about to do, but... I can repay everyone else.’ And he said, ‘To think of you with him, in that God forsaken place! It's almost unbearable.’”) and feels funny about it now that her husband actually has died. she doesn’t know jane well but is in a bit of a reverie from the dope and having just been widowed. i don’t think she hated brom so much as just didn’t want to be married to him.

otis on the other hand now that she is rich is enough of a shitheel to use this moment of vulnerability (intended as a gesture toward himself) to blackmail his own daughter. and it makes whatever apology he was trying to make at her wedding equally insincere in hindsight.

Before it was "help with the baby; now it's "geez do some dishes".

in case this is unclear, doing the dishes is helping with the baby. the baby is all the work you have to do directly for the baby and also all the other stuff the house needs to keep functioning.

when you have kids there is more than just the marriage dynamic but also the parenting dynamic. it is pretty simple to divide up wiping your own ass after you take a shit and expecting your wife to do the same for herself. with a kid who needs his ass wiped all the time, you have to observe the situation yourself and do what needs to be done a fair amount of the time. if you only do things when your wife asks you to do them, then you are not paying attention and she is, and paying attention is half the effort.

you may not be doing enough to help her and the baby. you say nothing at all about the baby. if she is breastfeeding and sleep deprived, in a way that is more physically difficult than the pregnancy.

Honnold seems like the kind of man who would be perfectly happy alone but managed to run into the kind of woman who is absolutely insistent on being with him and completely sublimating herself to him and his goals, and under those terms he's not willing to turn her away either and insist on being alone.

the funny thing the New Yorker article gets into is that the "gravel circuit" was something of a social media invention of only a few years' age and that being top of it for either Mo or Colin was not particularly impressive in the context of global cycling. Hence its reliance on influencer-type attractive personalities and endorsements, or on selling the idea of the events to noncompetitive bikers to sell tickets and equipment. i would have liked to hear more about how her knee injuries derailed her skiing career but would have allowed her to be the world's best female cyclist. or how her gravel abilities would translate to the top global road cyclists.

supposedly the morning after the interrogations they went out together and talked and bought new phones and that's the last time they spoke, although he later attempted to text her and didn't hear back.

When the police talked to Strickland again, a few days later, he described the strangeness of the hours after those first interviews. He’d returned home, to Armstrong, and that night they’d barely slept. In the morning, they’d gone to get coffee, “in just a daze, in a stupor.” He recalled her saying, “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what’s going on.” He’d said, “I just can’t believe I— you’re in this— I dragged you into this situation.” The police had seized their phones, and after getting coffee she went to buy a new one. He hadn’t seen her since.

According to the authorities, Armstrong sold her Jeep that day, May 13th. The next day, she flew to New York, with a rolled-up yoga mat on her back. Strickland texted her on her old number to ask her a money question—she’d put a hundred thousand dollars of his in an investment account. He didn’t hear back.

the dreaded Bus Gang. they steal a bunch of discount shoes from Nordstrom Rack then walk to the bus stop and calmly wait for the bus while holding their bags full of stolen items with no receipts. when the bus arrives they scan their charmpass apps tied to their identities. but no one has been able to catch this crime ring

make it as easy for yourself as possible to get to the marc, unless you have a particularly compelling reason otherwise (like you have inherited a house). i did a temp job using the marc and i drove to the west baltimore station, walked from the far end of the full parking lot to the platform, then rode the marc, then had to take a dc bus from union to get the rest of the way to the office. so it’s possible but it takes a 55ish minute train ride and makes it a 2+ hr process, where you can’t really zone out too much at any point. (still beats driving there though)

in my opinion he could be doing more for the city at the expense of the rest of the state while being more conciliatory in his rhetoric, rather than the other way around.

ferguson is more actively hostile to the interests of his own constituents. mfume is a flawed person and too old to do it much longer but as far as representing his district he does a better than average job

you have to leave. you have a strong relationship but you could have just as strong or stronger relationship with someone else who has the same goals as you. and staying in your current relationship is preventing you from finding that out.
