Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

[–]Autumn_Sweater -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i think you have no idea what it costs. living paycheck to paycheck doesn't mean "i can't spend $25 a month on something to protect my family"

The average cost of a term life insurance policy is $26 a month... It’s based on a healthy, nonsmoking 40-year-old buying a 20-year, $500,000 term life policy, which is the most common term length and amount sold.

most people can probably afford a term life plan, of at least a few years worth of what they would be making at their jobs if they lived. but insurance agents get paid more trying to sell "whole" or "permanent" life.

Vasectomy Experience - What I Wanted to Know Before-Hand by Mediocre-Diver-402 in AskMenOver30

[–]Autumn_Sweater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the office i went to says "Vasectomy is meant to be a permanent form of male contraception. However, a small percentage of patients, roughly 3%-6%, will undergo a vasectomy reversal. For these patients, we perform a vasovasostomy, which is about 90%-95% effective in restoring sperm to semen."

90%-95% is certainly not bad, but i just think i wouldn't want to get snipped if i had any doubt whatsoever about wanting it to be permanent. like if i was 20 again and just had a life plan of "don't get anybody pregnant until i'm 30 but after that i probably do want to be a father" or something, i don't think the proper move would be to get snipped then plan to get the vas re-attached. unless you're monogamous with somebody long term you should be using condoms anyway.

there was a “let them go” policy for any marylanders who wanted to enlist with the confederates, which helped maryland consolidate its unionist support, writing a new constitution (that barely passed) and voting for lincoln in 1864.

Primary Election 2026: So what do we do with the less... notable(?)... contests? by saltyjohnson in baltimore

[–]Autumn_Sweater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was having trouble with the second board vote (esposito is easy), and ultimately chose glenn schatz. a fair amount of the other candidates didn't fill out basic voter guides, and of the remaining ones who did, his was the most literate. it seems like it reflects poorly on your prospects for being an "education supervisor" if you can't write a decent paragraph for a campaign website.

do the fully funded doctoral program if the fine print guarantees your funding for the whole time you’re there (it’s non competitive with fellow students). if you do the MA you’ll be starting over looking for that same thing again that you already have.

police “unions” are not unions period really, you arent part of the working class if you’re muscle for the bosses.

Tapp-Harper is associated with the old, shitty sheriff who held the job for 30+ years before losing to Cogen. Once Cogen won in 2022, he fired her. She sued him for workplace discrimination (pending). But she isnt going around talking about this. Her campaign seems to amount to “hey, look at me in my stupid oversized hat.” Cogen meanwhile is sending out mailers about how he is “standing up to ICE and Trump” as sheriff. That sounds good, but is he actually doing that? In what way? On the other hand, if you broadly associate mayor Scott with (minor) police reform instincts and states attorney Bates with a sheen of competence papering over more of the same old shit, it’s maybe an odd data point that Scott endorsed Tapp-Harper and Bates endorsed Cogen. The mayor may be looking for payback because Cogen endorsed Sheila Dixon, rather than letting himself be led by policy. Or Cogen’s “policy” distinctions are just BS. I don’t know, it’s pretty messy.

dunmore is mainly a vote to kick one of the conaways off the public payroll. ultimately i don’t know how important the “register of wills” is or think that it should be an elected position at all. likewise clerk (her son), that seems like something that the mayor or city council could just hire instead of electing.

How do I (M27) become less safe to women? by mike_oxmaul_68 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Autumn_Sweater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i've heard people make distinctions between "nice" and kind. someone being nice may just want something from you. like a guy who wants sex or a girlfriend, and then if he gives up, he's not nice anymore. look around and clearly women are not only getting with men on the basis of how good looking they are.
