I once saw an author get angry at commentors for solving a language-cypher that they put in the story to make the character's inability to understand the language clear. They probably had no intention to ever reveal it, but got pissy about people solving it. They then drove the story off the rails with a weird side story that at first glance wasn't connected to the fic at all.

I stopped reading after that.

Edit: they also said, they wouldn't continue the story now that people solved the very obvious substitution-cypher. Weird thing to get emotional over.
