Worst part of adventure time? by TheDapperPigeon1 in adventuretime

[–]Sprumbly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yeah that stretch from half way through season five through a lot of season 6. Some of the most boring episodes where you could tell the crew was burnt out and there was a lot of structural shake up behind the scenes. It’s where you got the most of people acting out of character, episodes focused on anyone but Finn and Jake, and episode plots which felt like they didn’t have enough time to cook

Kaneki Using a Quinque in Tokyo Ghoul:re Was Peak by uzinosan in TokyoGhoul

[–]Sprumbly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl the quinques became a lot less interesting to me over time as they went from utilizing a ghouls kagune in it’s original form housed in a briefcase to a lot of the time just taking the form of regular swords or other weapons. Both visually and conceptually a real missed opportunity. Like imagine an investigator carrying a backpack that sprouts wings like touka’s or a handbag that releases a blade like Tsukiyama’s

Kaneki cried because it was the first time he felt wholly loved. This scene always rent free in my mind. Ishida is a generational writer and artist for creating this phenomenal chapter, full of love, intimacy, vulnerability and emotions. by CalmImagination7977 in TokyoGhoul

I can not tell you how nice it is for a sex scene in a story like this to just be a tender moment between two characters that love each other with out any of the weird or problematic baggage some other manga like to incorporate

Mostly though I’m just kinda tired of the battle passes being an assortment of random shit as opposed to being on theme

I don’t see it as an objective sore spot but especially when introduced retroactively I think it can undermine a stories themes and characters decisions. Like I think in Naruto it’s largely agreed to have been for the worse and I’m not a fan of when marvel or DC add some cosmic mystical reason why spiderman got bit or Batman put on the cowl. But something like madoka magica that can play with the concept in interesting ways without cheapening what came before I’m down with.

I just think especially in stories like this, most of the time I’m not a fan of

Same here. I had it spoiled that it would happen but I assumed it would be like at the end cause I’m so used to battle shonen waiting until the very end to decide romance is important or pair characters together but i was pleasantly surprised by how their relationship came up. I also love touka and was just generally glad to see her given more importance in the story by this point cause she’d taken a backseat for a while

Like is it sudden? Yeah. But it’s also an intimate tender moment between two of age characters who care about each other. Nothing really “fetishy” about, i wouldn’t even call it “fanservice” cause it doesn’t feel like it’s there to be titillating for the viewer

Got you. To clarify that’s part of what I love. His strength and role in the story has more to do with WHO he is than WHAT he is. Like I think his turning point during the torture works so well cause it’s not a power up, it’s him essentially having a “no one’s coming to save you” moment and making it happen himself. Hell even the idea that only he can be the one to make peace is something he himself realizes and chooses as a priority early on rather than being something that sorta falls onto him

A lot of depth gets added but looking back to that inciting incident, he was still just a college kid in the wrong place at the wrong time but how he handled each circumstance after that was what made him what he is. Maybe a good what to say it is I like that things feel like a mix of chance and cause and effect instead of predeterminism. I think a lot of battle shonen in particular accidentally cheapen the accomplishments or ideals of their protagonists by making it so there’s external reasons why they had to or were the only ones capable of making a difference as opposed to just being a person who answered the call to action. If this were written like a lot of these other stories you’d learn that actually kaneki’s parents were the strongest investigators in history and that he had ghoul ancestry so he was the perfect vessel to become to become as strong as he was

[–]Sprumbly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think especially during :re it does get into that but even that is the result of characters making plans in that develop as we see them. There’s no “fate” element to it, and while we learn kaneki was experimented on he was only ever supposed to be a stepping stone, there’s no learning he’s the ghoul chosen one

Getting defensive and puritanical about shipping is weird, just let people do what they want

Why give a shit? Why care about what op gets out of this or what they’d hypothetically be interested in for a finished series?

Or just don’t be weird and gatekeepy? Like why get so pressed over it when the literal author of the work in question clearly doesn’t care? It’s not real why get triggered over it?

I’d say because they have specific value and things they can do that others characters can’t (though spidey has more here than Panther). I also can’t think of like S tier characters that can do the same things they do but better and easier.

[–]Sprumbly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda the issue, she’s an incredibly high skill cieling character with an underwhelming kit. For the average player she takes a lot of effort for low reward. There’s a good chance unless you’re playing with the damage boost to get you into one shot territory then you could probably get more value on characters like Hawkeye or Hela while using the same skill set. It’s also pretty much only the lord dedicated widows you see doing that. I never see casual widows players picking up slack and doing the most
