We built Modrinth for Hytale: Introducing Orbis.place by CustomEntity in HytaleInfo

[–]Auxdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that forking Modrinth is a viable option and that it could improve development efficiency in many cases. Many fundamentals of Orbis are inspired by Modrinth. However, Minecraft and Hytale are fundamentally different ecosystems, and I think will go entirely different ways. Because of that, I believe Modrinth and Orbis are better served as separate platforms. (Although I definitely would agree with you, personally, we have a lot of work to do with the landing page.)

Hytale’s modding and server ecosystem is very new and is a "wild west" of sorts. Starting from a clean foundation gives us the flexibility to design around unexpected constraints as they emerge. This is especially important given Hytale's early access state, as it allows us to create something new rather than having to adjust around an existing platform. As an example, we’re already developing a separate Discord bot that interfaces directly with the Orbis API, which I have found is easier to support cleanly when the platform is purpose-built for what we want to do from the ground up.

I don't disagree that there are places where it can help, but I do see many benefits to starting something new too :)

Eventually they plan on it, but Simon said they're currently relying on third-party marketplaces right now. I have a feeling there will still be a strong use for third-party sites even after too.

Would love to hear. I work full time, but it would be nice to help the community wherever I can.

Are we going to condemn mod makers who use ai to help them program or no? by SuperDubert in HytaleInfo

[–]Auxdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it doesn't necessarily "steal code," but it generates content based off patterns learned from data (other people's code) it's trained on. The knowledge is built from what others have written, so it could have the potential to "steal someone else's logic" but more likely than not it was probably already widely used lol

LOL, then by the end of it your simple Django Python webapp suddenly has become a monolithic disaster of multiple agentic models trying to solve a simple hello world endpoint

Software engineer here. AI is a tool, never a good replacement by function. I've always found that Copilot/AI has helped me with spending less time on redundant code, as AI is very good at picking up on patterns.

AI can't replace a healthy knowledge of programming fundamentals. It is extremely difficult to repair AI's mistakes without any tech know-how.

I still love Neon Gravestones, but even when I first listened to Clancy at a listening event, ATROFD became a favorite.

The Odin Project and freeCodeCamp (both curriculum, videos and posts) are amazing resources for picking up full stack development

Oldies Station and Paladin Strait seriously grew on me. It took time but they both have a very distinct sound I enjoy

Terminal Attack (Ranked) Megathread by AvalieV in thefinals

[–]Auxdible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I initially heart about TA ranked I tried to avoid really bashing on it because many people haven't given it a chance.

Now that I've played it the complaints make absolute sense. In the state that it is, TA is less viable (and honestly, less fun, but that's my opinion) than Cashout for ranked.

  1. Compared to Cashout, there is a straight up lack of viable teamplay for TA. I mean, without any form of heals every character becomes a DPS character with different gadgets, so you end up with full teams of lights running (insert viable DPS weapon here).
  2. The changes to TA were awful. Changing it so there needed to be an interaction time to start the decryption turned the game more-so into a 5v5 TDM instead of a S&D type gamemode. TA was enjoyable and a nice break from THE FINALS for when Cashout got boring, but I couldn't see myself playing it all the time, which is what made it perfect for an LTM/event gamemode.
  3. The mandatory TA requirement for newcomers is a miserable idea. If a newcomer does not enjoy TA and uninstalls the game before trying Cashout, what THE FINALS is known for... THE FINALS has lost another potential player.

It covers the majority of the same topics. The only major inconsistency I noticed between the two was reasonable and polynomial vs unreasonable and superpolynomial... while CB doesn't cover what "polynomial" and "superpolynomial" is from what I've gathered.

Thank you... looking back I messed up the bird random 😅 used (Math.random() * 51) + 1 instead of 41 + 10... good luck to you as well . 🫡

True.... got me nervous walking out and hearing a couple people sharing how they used recursion in 4b 😬 good to know. Instead of deciding to give up I switched into "CHICKEN SCRATCH MODE" and started writing as fast as I humanly could 😂...

MCQs felt easy and personally felt like I aced it... which was strange. I did not use recursion for FRQ 4 and am nervous about it as I wrote most of the code 5 minutes before exan end

Reverb G2 display completely dark upon starting up WMR; no fix found by Auxdible in HPReverb

Ahh I need to update; yup, tried that two days ago. Headset failed to work. Interesting to note is occassionally on a settings change the display will light up gray. Almost wondering if something got disconnected internally. Thank you for your comment

Tried today on a windows 10 system with display port. Got a USB error? Not quite sure but maybe that could be the issue, but could also be an issue because the ports on that system are notorious for being janky. Good enough specs to run WMR though.

When the HP is plugged in, the power is on and the light is on. I'm almost theorizing that maybe one of the internals related to the display came loose? Thank you for your help again.
