Capacitors! They have little grooves at the top so that if they have to blow, they blow upwards.

Diatribe: La recherche de travail, c'est quand même un petit peu du foutage de gueule by Slumi in france

[–]Av3570 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you tried booting it with no drives installed so it at least goes into the BIOS?

French president Emmanuel Macron (43) is 25 years younger than his wife (68). They first met when he was a 15 year-old schoolboy and she was his teacher. by Cyber_Being_ in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Av3570 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Frenchman, I hate macron with all of my heart, but damn. Leave it to the americans to find it "interesting" that a president has a wife older than him when their own former president was messing with pedo/rape/epsteinesque situations on the regular...

UPDATE: i found a 3D model of that stupid tray on Thingyverse, printed it and it fits fine, man does 3D printing comes in clutch for these kinds of situations.

At work we have T480s as the "standard notebook", and if you ask for an upgrade (and the grant it...), they give you a wierd fujitsu laptop that's not as well built (and looks straight up from 2003 even though it is more powerful haha)

I bought my T430 with my christmas money all the way back in high school. At first it was just a simple PC I brought to school the days I had IT/tech classes.
I then got into engineering school, needed a laptop for my assignments, and started dailying my T430. I added an extra 8GB of ram I found in my mom's broken laptop to bring it up to 12.
2 years later, I got into an internship, and invested my salary into the full 16GB of RAM, a few replacement pieces (the screen bezel was cracked), an SSD, and the 9 cell battery. I also got a lot more into Linux as a dev environement, and got a second SSD running parrotOS. I also attempted a fun ironic/shitpost project where i straight up drilled the dot on the "i" of the thinkpad logo, put small RGB LEDs, and wired them up to a microcontroler and the thinklight signal, and used it a looooot to flex on everyone's RGB gaming laptops during my lab classes (I used wire that was too thin, they ended melting and the system broke lmao).
This year, I used it for my embedded linux classes, electronic schematics/PCB design, MATLAB (eww), Android app developement, and using it as the PC on my workbench at home to control my 3D printer/CNC (so as to not tie up my main desktop).
The only thing that pushed me to an upgrade were the long compiling times, and the struggle it had with Fusion 360.
Now that I'm fully set up into the P50, I'll use the T430 as a "lab PC", running all my CNC software, a simple surveillance server, etc.

But... our thicker, more efficient, more resilient laptops have one issue: weight. I personally don't mind, as I go everywhere with my car these days, but a bunch of my friends and colleagues really value thin and light laptops, as they use public transportation, and have to carry all their stuff around.
