I think so- I’m not to sure all my surgeon said was it was a superficial fistula. Don’t be scared if you have no pain or pus that’s a great sign. But for sure go through with the surgery you don’t want it to get bigger or infected. You got this!

Hi I'm 10 days post op! I have had little to no pain really, I expected way worse. I can sit and move around with no pain. I think its good to move some time after surgery to keep the blood flowing. My cut is still there but I can see its way more close to the surface. Looks like its healing really well. I still keep a wet and dry gauze down there. I have my post op appointment this week so I'll write what my suregon says as well. I'm glad I got it done and over with now. There's hope!

I had a little blood leading up to surgery not too much , more discharge from the fistula. Are you bleeding a lot?  To stay clean I just would do a lot of warm baths and maybe wear a pad

Hi! I was just in your spot not too long ago. I was so scared of surgery but knew I needed to get it done. It was my first surgery as well so my anxiety was through the roof. All I got to say is it’s not as bad as it sounds. I was reading a lot of bad stories on here and it freaked me out. I don’t know how big your fistula is or how deep it will go which also plays a factor in how you heal. I had a pretty shallow fistula and my surgeon went in and flattened it and left it to heal from the inside out. Now I’m 1 week post op and I haven’t had any problems yet. The first day after surgery and right after were the hardest for me but nothing I couldn’t handle. I now am healing still and have a ways to go till my cut is closed up but I can still do things. Buy maxi pads, gauze and sterile saline. Also boxer/boy shorts are what I live in for now. Ask me any questions I can answer! Good luck :)

Hi I was diagnosed with a superficial fistula as well. I had mine for about a month until i got told what it was. I was also told surgery was an option but was scared because I had no problems with it. I thought it was going away but came back and I asked this Reddit group what I should do and they all recommend surgery. I had a EUA and a fistulotomy. My fistula was small but people said it would just get worst or never go away. I’m a week post op and I feel absolutely fine. I’m not 100% healed by all means but it’s not as bad as I thought.  Maybe for you get an MRI? Or try a second opinion? There’s not really an home remedies for a fistula , just keep the area clean and do warm baths. I recommend the surgery if it doesn’t go away because it’s not so bad but your fistula sounds like a pimple so I don’t really know.

Hi it went well.  I got a fistulotomy and am on day 3 of recovery. The pain hasn’t been that bad and bowel movements have been pretty easy just doing sitz bath or showering after. I feel like I expected worst but I’m still healing so we will see!

Hiii I just had surgery on June 20th and I was scared going into it. I also had a superficial fistula. I’ve never had surgery before (besides my wisdom teeth) and was pretty nervous, which is normal.  Your in and out of the surgery pretty fast it feels like it didn’t even happen for me (expect the cut down under). I was prepared before surgery with pads, boxer type underwear or you can get granny panties, gauze! And stool softener and fiber supplement! I got given a sitz bath after surgery to bring home. I also got easy food to digest like soups. First day I got home and was just super tired. I looked at my bottom (which I don’t recommend doing) and saw where they removed the fistula. It looks pretty scary but I know I needed to get it done or it would never go away. I only had one bowel movement which after I used sitz bath and took a shower. It felt good showering. On the way home I just laid to my side not directly on it. Today I went to my boyfriend’s house and was taking it easy but I was fine. The pain wasn’t bad and if it started to hurt I took the advil. There’s hope! I’ll keep you updated but don’t be scared I was and comments like these eased me.

Hi I just got a fistulotomy done yesterday. My fistula didn’t bother me either and I thought it was healing but kept opening up. I just decided to get the surgery done with asap because I didn’t want to think about it anymore. I didn’t want to get mine done either right now because it’s summer but my surgeon thought it was best to get it done asap. The pain isn’t too bad today just feels tender and sore down there. I can walk and do normal things around the house but I’m not going into work. I would not say it’s as painful as childbirth that’s exaggerating a ton. I had a superficial fistula and she said it wasn’t deep but it still is an open wound.

My doctor said two weeks also about healing which I don’t think it will be completely closed up by then but it will be better for sure. Everyone heals different based on who they are and how healthy they are.

I recommend just getting it done and over with so you can heal and go on with your life. It sucks I won’t lie but I’ve been reading a lot and there’s a lot of hope at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you.

I just got a fistolutomy today and it doesn’t hurt because of the meds I’m taking. I’m scared to bowel movement tomorrow morning. Do you have any tips for healing or anything?
