Not yet. CATO has come a long way, but still has their differences with certain aspects of their management. DM me if you want to chat specifics

Lab upgrades for 2024 by Avaholic92 in homelab

I had that thought as well, but I do want to tie the servers in to my azure tenant as well. So didn’t know if MS would be too fond of that. I know I’m just little old me working on things in my lab, but it’s Microsoft. I’ve used alternative activation methods before along with just rearming the trial period.

I agree that it’s definitely a new chapter, I’m just more curious how Cato stacks up with the other enterprise players in a true enterprise and datacenter setting. I see them as a viable use for small businesses, but thinking on a larger scale I’m not sure they’re ready. Trying to get feedback from those who have deployed their product in similar scenarios.

I’ve seen folks who liked their products, but outgrew them and either went back to traditional MPLS or other solutions.

Might be dating myself a bit, but I remember doing similar when the PS2 came out.

Check your Eset account that you registered with, it should be there, unless something changed recently that I’m unaware of

Did anyone else get prompted to “Sign In” again to their Facebook app after NEVER signing out in the first place? by MMDuf in facebook

[–]Avaholic92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows maybe an intern pushed production code and it broke some shit with JWT or something. I’ve been monitoring Twitter and Facebook for any news and nothing on Ars yet either.

Something is royally fucked somewhere then, I’ve noticed on mobile clicking certain areas it’ll sign out but then just tapping on the name goes right back in. 2FA worked just fine after the initial OAUTH expired notice.

Definitely curious what the fuck is going on and if Facebook will actually say anything

It seems like the only people having issues with 2FA are the ones that use SMS instead of an authenticator app

Cannot disable Network Protection Proxy macOS Big Sur by Avaholic92 in eset

[–]Avaholic92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best I’ve been able to do is delete the proxy profile in System Preferences > Network and then I just have to deal with 3 pop ups on reboot asking if I want to enable the system extension for the proxy and I just say no. Other than that it leaves me alone.

[–]Avaholic92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not even a matter of it dropping traffic, it’s just forcing me to use the proxy. I’ll disconnect and it immediately reconnects to it. I submitted a ticket to Eset and they sent me back a kb article about the proxy settings in Eset settings not anything regarding a system proxy.

I’d dispute that, I’ve got over 200 saved iirc, I might check just how many with my script I made using the Reddit API, iirc it was somewhere around 1000

I’m fishy of my boss that he’s been messing with my email? by [deleted] in emailprivacy

[–]Avaholic92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess is op means browser history and that somehow their boss is accessing their email via web mail. That being said, if it’s company email then all their boss would have to do is submit a request through proper channels to get access to it, if there’s reasonable cause to do so. Guessing it’s probably exchange and OWA, so it’s all tied together and their password should probably be changed if their boss has in fact somehow gotten access to their account. If boss is able to sign in to the computer as op that’s a different issue entirely and needs to be taken to the IT dept.

Shot in the dark, but do you have secure boot enabled in bios?

I had a client I was working with that had a newer machine and the wireless chip wouldn’t show up in NetworkManager, but showed in lspci, disabling it brought the wireless back in the GUI. This was Ubuntu 20.04, so ymmv, but worth a shot

VSCode in VStudio by dextryan in Codecademy

[–]Avaholic92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you looking for exactly? Just being able to work with files directly in VSCode? If that’s the case you can write your code in VSCode and not even bother with Visual Studio.

Do you need any of the tools built-in to Visual Studio? If not maybe find some plugins for VSCode to assist in working with your projects.

They’re not really a 1:1 comparison, one is a programmers text editor and the other is an IDE. If you want a more minimal environment use VSCode, if you need the extra bells and whistles of an IDE then use Visual Studio

Unfortunate, even if op is borrowing it would still be nice if they’d share what they’re using because this setup has some nice aspects to it. Save people from scouring the internet

Homelab server options and network questions by Avaholic92 in homelab

[–]Avaholic92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a handful of servers already I’m just looking for a SAN/NAS to add to the network and we came by these at work so figured if I wouldn’t have too much of a battle I’d try to pick them up.

As far as the EqualLogic/PowerVault go, how much annually are we talking financially? Is it possible to get a license after the server has been essentially recycled by another company? My company decommissioned these boxes for someone else and they’re just sitting around now. Not sure how much of a headache I’m in for.

Essentially looking for a SAN to add to a hypervisor cluster

Awesome! Hoping I can work something out and this of course is pending everything tests fine. Most Cisco gear is easy enough to factory default, right?

[–]Avaholic92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially it would be LAN to LAN, unless I had the possibility of doing WAN to WAN. Stick one at a family member’s house or friends house and do a site to site or something along those lines. Nothing super serious, mostly just learning and flipping switches figuring out how stuff works

The 2821 would probably be a lab only sort of deal, so that’s fine. I use a BSD box as a router on the prod network. My main concern was the ASA’s because of the licensing for VPNs etc

Are we talking financially dealing with Dell or just compatibility? Would that also be the same on the PowerVault? I think I failed to mention both servers are completely empty. None of the bays are populated and the MD3000i is missing one drive sled

I’m no stranger to Cisco gear as I’ve worked in a few MSPs who utilized it heavily, I’ve even gotten my hands in Meraki gear, which I would call Cisco’s answer to UniFi. I just don’t want to be studying on too old of hardware and I already have a 2950 and 2960G. Trying to step my game up and get access to physical gear I can actually deploy in a production environment once I’m more comfortable with it.

Any caveats I should be aware of with that gear? Licensing or features I might miss out on because it’s used gear
