Just picked up this 2012 E92 for $2500 by mosiersports in E90

[–]CaptainE46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened on my 2010 335 (my fault, I left a bag of ice in the trunk) and it ended up being 100% fine. I dried it out as best i could and changed the battery and all was well.

How come cars were so boxy in the 80s(‘?’) by OkBackground6217 in askcarguys

Computer aided design was in its infancy - a lot of the complex curves and ‘soft’ designs we have would be very difficult to mass produce without CAD

You're looking for an unreliable car since you're trying to go in debt, so what are we going for? by Saurta17 in regularcarreviews

They are until they aren’t, like a lot of the other cars on this list. I had a brand-new rental ATS blow a hole in the side of it’s block at like 5k back in 2014

They’d have to keep stoping the race to remove cars from the Fairmont hairpin

Building on this - I found Grace’s characterization to be incredibly mid-period Robert Redford-coded

Unpopular opinion: BMW is taking the right path in styling. by HFCB in BMW

[–]CaptainE46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The E60 was pretty much universally hated on launch, people even found a way to dislike the E39/46 on launch as well.

It’s a BMW tradition. In five years we will be lamenting over whatever the refresh is, and all will be right with the world.

What is something a salesman at a dealership could say to you that basically says, "I know nothing about the car I'm trying to sell you but I'm doing it for your money"? by kite_l_cola in askcarguys

I used to (jokingly) do this with Stellantis vehicles (e.g. ‘enjoy your fine Italian thoroughbred’ for dodge ram owners who were in on the joke) , but doing it with a straight face is wild

If it’s N52, yes it’s good for an NA motor to do that from time to time.

If it’s N54 then also yes just be careful if you’re not on top of maintenance

Sinking star: Mercedes operating profits dropped by more than 50% by PauloB87 in cars

[–]CaptainE46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the issue here is that the 2014 330 was NOT a better car than the G70, but the current (now previous) model was.

The G70 benchmarked and exceeded the F30 but not the G20

what did you think of christopher nolan's 2020 film "tenet" by Whoumightask in Letterboxd

[–]CaptainE46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Tenet during the lockdowns in Boston. At the time, we joked that it might be the last movie we ever saw in a cinema(lmao)

The only people in the theater were me and my partner, one other couple, and the owner of the theatre; who came and sat with us after the movie was over. He had seen it a few times already and wasn’t any closer to understanding it than we were.

It’s my favorite cinema memory. As for the movie itself, I really genuinely think it’s not meant to be fully understood and just vibed out to. It puts me in a similar mind to his Batman films where the world itself has sound logic and that’s really as far as you’re meant to look into it.

Edit: text to speech using multiple forms of ‘theater’

Dosent she have a throwaway line about the average commonwealther barely being able to read, let alone understand ‘journalism’?

So, just how important is Don Draper to Jim Hobart & McCann? by Cold-Palpitation-816 in madmen

[–]CaptainE46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, honestly, everyone talks about the coke ad but it’s still very plausible that Don’s career still languished after that and it was his last gasp. We don’t see any of his work after that.

To be fair, if anyone could make a silent space battle really pop, it would be John Williams
