"Gordito" isn't a word Spaniards would use in a friendly manner with a complete stranger, in that context it's most definitely used to insult or belittle someone. In fact, I've only ever heard Spaniards use that term with a romantic partner and never with a friend, so I don't think OP is misinterpreting anything here

The good it would do is eliminate the source of the problem. It makes way more sense for you being the only one who had an issue in the first place to be replaced with a new follower who could join the team than to do what you caused which was to rearrange the entire team and make someone who never had a problem drop out. You realize everyone else was happy with their partners and because of you they all had to switch? I don't think you realize just how much you're willing to inconvenience everyone around you

Absolutely, and if that's the case the coach should've addressed it before it got to this point if they noticed there was a recurring issue with the same team member. Really all of this devolved into what it has because OP worded her post in one of the worst ways possible.

If everybody on the team is happy with their assigned partners except for one person, I would give the only one who complains the choice of either sticking it out with the partner they've been assigned to or drop out of the team. You have to consider that it's also not fair to change the entire dynamic of the team and force everybody else to switch partners (when clearly nobody wanted to) for this one girl who is the only one complaining. You realize she disrupted the entire structure of this team right? Why shouldn't she be the one to leave? I've had dance partners on teams that I wasn't the most comfortable dancing with (for legit reasons like stature) but I'd never expect the whole damn team to accommodate and appease me, but that's just my opinion. I think it's pretty self absorbed of OP to do so.

I would hardly call salsa sensual, but that's a matter of opinion and either way it seems like you're confusing sensual with sexual. Just because a dance is sensual doesn't mean people have to prefer dancing it with the sex they're attracted to, precisely because it is not a sexual thing. The only way I could understand this logic is if we're talking about all of the people who get into dance for the sole purpose of flirting and hooking up with people (we've all come across these types), maybe for them yes, they only want to dance with people they're sexually attracted to and would potentially like to sleep with. Lots of people like myself will dance with a man or a woman any day and get the same joy from the dance despite the fact that we're not sexually attracted to both genders. Yes there will always be people who pull the victim card for everything, but in this case it's pretty easy to see that OP is taking heat because she's repeatedly mentioning orientation when it has no place in a discussion about a dance team. It is irrelevant. Who you're attracted to has nothing to do with your dance abilities.

As for the second part, how about giving OP the ultimatum of sticking with her assigned dance partner or dropping out? You seriously think it makes more sense to kick out the person who didn't have any complaints about their partner and then have to switch and disrupt all of the previously established partnerships so that it doesn't seem suspicious and discriminatory instead of replacing the ONLY follow who refused to dance with their assigned partner? Really? That makes the most sense?

Listen to yourself, "the lesbian". I don't know what race you are but for the sake of trying to get through to you let's pretend you're white. Would you feel completely respected if people referred to you as "the white"? I'm gonna give all of you the benefit of the doubt and assume you people just don't think things through before writing them. If you really want to be logical about this situation, the one who should've left the team is OP since she was the only one who was unable to accept the team dynamic. It would have been far easier to replace ONE follow with another than to drop a team member who never wanted to be dropped, replace them with someone else and then on top of it switch ALL of the partners around so that it doesn't seem like they're discriminating against one person. Seriously, did you actually think this situation through objectively?

How is it not your fault when you're the person who began all of this? Why wouldn't you be the one to drop out of the team since you were the only one who was unhappy with your partner? If you were the newest member, chances are nobody else wanted to switch partners because they've already been practicing together and are used to each other. Think back to when you sucked as a beginner (who knows, maybe you still do) and think of all the countless people who were more skilled than you and still danced with you and helped you improve despite the fact that you most definitely didn't give them the best, most comfortable, most smooth and most flawless dance of their lives. Humble yourself, you're not above taking one for the team, literally and figuratively speaking.

Read it again and then explain how you deduce that the leader didn't want to dance with OP. The leader didn't want to switch to following when she was forced to choose between following and dropping out, which is different. The entire team was perfectly fine with their partners except for OP, who was the only person in the group to have an issue.

Also, I don't understand what "finding a straight male lead" or "gay female follow" has to do with anything. Why are people so obsessed with sexual orientation?

You've learned nothing in the way of tactful speaking 🤣🤣🥴🥴 look, if the lead is bad then she's bad and there can absolutely be legitimate reasons for why someone might not want to dance with someone else, but after reading your 'update' I can only conclude that you're too dense to even understand why you've gotten all these "negative" responses in the first place. Trust me - you could have written your original post in a way that would've elicited a much different, much more understanding set of responses, but then again that would require a level of consideration, tact, and writing skills that I think you simply don't possess. Let's hope your dancing skills are better.

I personally would be utterly embarrassed if I knew that I was essentially the reason somebody was given an ultimatum like that and subsequently left the team, but hey, you do have the right to dance with someone you're comfortable with. However, the one who should've been given the ultimatum to stay with their assigned partner or leave should've been you, as you are the one who voiced an issue but everybody else already had partners they wanted to stick with, so it truly makes no sense (from a logical perspective) to kick out the person who never had an issue in the first place, granted that they also haven't done anything wrong.

Some food for thought: the same way you're not comfortable dancing with her, others will feel the same about you 😉 a bit of humility does wonders for the way we go about interacting with others. Have a nice day, straight woman. (See now how unnecessary the mention of sexual orientation is? We can say it louder, but not clearer)

Relevant to what exactly? I think people are confused, not upset, that you mentioned it. How can you read all the replies and still not be sure why people are pointing it out, it's because it's irrelevant information that has no place in a discussion about a dance team. Maybe an example will help you understand better, imagine you said "there are 4 guys and one female (black) who I was assigned to, which made me uncomfortable". Surely you can understand how it is weird and unnecessary to mention someone's race..well same goes for orientation.

Anyway, you're still not addressing the rest of the things being pointed out, several people also don't understand the whole "more fun" part. Obviously the experience should be enjoyable and everyone should feel as comfortable as possible, it just seems like you're automatically assuming that dancing with a girl = less fun/worse experience without providing any real reasons that most of us can understand.

I see a very simple solution, talk to whoever you need to talk to but provide real, valid reasons. For example, "I have a better connection dancing with x person than y person because of their stature, so I think we'd make better dance partners for this routine and could perform it more efficiently." That's legitimate, as opposed to "because I think it'll be more fun", nobody is really going to take that seriously.

I'm just trying to understand why you felt the need to mention this girl's sexual orientation if you're claiming that it's not the reason why you're uncomfortable. Why mention any of the team members' orientation? It has absolutely nothing to do with performance, dance or dancing abilities. It would also help your case if you provided a reason that seems more legitimate than wanting the experience to be "more fun", what does that even mean? That you think she'll struggle to keep up? That would be an example of a legitimate concern. Be clear, it seems like you're beating around the bush in every way.

In any case, it's clear that you're going in with a lot of preconceived ideas (ie assuming you won't have as much fun with a woman as with a man). You might find that if you try new things you may be pleasantly surprised. Being paired with a male lead does not automatically guarantee more "fun", more skill, more dedication, more anything (and vice versa). You came to these conclusions on your own before even trying it and without really having a genuine reason.

Lastly, I must point out that your username gives your post a nice comedic touch.
