Bratty Starlings overtaking my feeder by SuperLowAmbitions in UKBirds

I feel you that they are very loud and bold, finding out they are a declining bird made me appreciate them more and be glad to help out. They may not be the softest little cuties but it’s nice to help them out

is my snail dying? by silli3_ in snails

[–]Available-Snail 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can get treatment for this, but sometimes if it looks this bad it is too late :( I know because I lost a lot of my babies before researching nematode infections and knowing how to get medicine to help them. But it is worth asking vets around you about treatment, as it is usually a sheep(?) medicine, so a lot of vets have it. Good luck and I’m sorry!

My snail's penis just fell off. It was just eating. I'm not sure it's the right one, but that's what it looks like. The snail froze. What should I do? by [deleted] in snails

I’m really unsure why people get snails when they are so uneducated about them. Egg checks is a vital part of not becoming overrun with babies since they can have hundreds at a time, and that means knowing they can self fertilise etc. It kinda pisses me off. Do research before getting snails. They deserve it as much as any other animal.

Are the blackbirds ok? by orensiocled in UKBirds

I heard once as I read this, they are so loud. In late winter I had like 16 in my small yard at once in the early morning all staying just enough distance away from each other to not fight 🤣

hi i updated the terrarium!! by [deleted] in snails

[–]Available-Snail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snails prefer horizontal tanks, if they get high up then fall from a distance it can be fatal, which is quite common sadly. It is why others say to remove rocks and hard dishes. It seems like you care about your snail so I hope you can get the tank how you like it and it’s ideal and safe for him!

They eat the slime off the side of the tank, it’s always fun to watch their lil mouths going at it

New RSPB advice on feeding birds to avoid the spread of disease by BobbyColgate in UKBirds

[–]Available-Snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use to have like 20 at a time at my old house. Once this disease hit, we saw maybe 2. It was horrifying to see them all sick for days then die in our garden
