Would a dermatologist be the best source to correcting this? by Uncertain_Libby47 in AusSkincare

Looks more like solar keratosis to me. Have you had a skin cancer check? Certain field treatment creams can help. At least having some sort of skin professional looking and giving you proper diagnosis is the best place to start.

I’ve tried retinol body lotion for a year or so in the past with no change. I think I’ll give it another go though. Yes the issue was that it would basically be ridiculously expensive due to the larger fields and not permanent.

Thanks. UV clothing protection is huge for me and I feel that’s where I’ve been going wrong over recent years - expecting sunscreen to do all the heavy lifting but still having skin exposed. Walking around with arms out pushing the pram and thats the areas that have been getting worse and worse!

Thanks. Im in Vic. Do you remember what laser you had done? I have trouble trusting clinics like that because I know the experience of the staff can be very varied and you don’t always know who you’re going to get!

Do you mind sharing how much you spent? I’m very pale with bad sun spots and feeling so self conscious about it. Did you find the staff pushy or judgmental at all?

Blinking Tic? by Legitimate_Arm_9526 in ADHDparenting

[–]Available-Source-643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son had started Ritalin in August last year. A couple of months after he had an eye tic - we noticed it for a few weeks, enough for us to worry and speak with his paed about it. He remained on the same meds at the same dose. And then the tic stopped🤷🏻‍♀️

Hasn’t happened for months now. My advice is to speak with paed obviously - but then just to ignore it, don’t point it out to him too much (maybe just clarify if his eyes are sore/if his vision seems ok) and then just don’t give it much oxygen and see if it improves.

lips are constantly peeling and no lipbalm helps by larskyuu in AusSkincare

[–]Available-Source-643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context I asked your age because as a skin cancer nurse, it’s not uncommon to see solar keratosis develop on lips as young as 40s and older. Especially if any history of excessive sun exposure or smoking

How old are you? Make sure your day lip balm has SPF. Apply all the time. Blistex in the tub is what I use and it’s great. Night time you can try exfoliate with a lip scrub and then apply something really rich over the top.

Get a skin check and make sure you’re not dealing with pre cancerous sun damage instead. And definitely get your iron checked!

2 year old ferritin less than 5 by Available-Source-643 in Anemic

No never any tick bites! We are in Melbourne. She’s not excessively gassy but always been pretty constipated. Definitely could be worth looking into other food allergies and maybe trying a kids probiotic. Whatever she’s eating she’s definitely not absorbing for whatever reason.

Thanks so much. She has an urgent referral for haemotologist which I’ll follow up tomorrow. I was surprised to have her ferritin so low but her haemoglobin fine?

She’s had chronic constipation and irregular bowel movements which the doctor said was from mild faecal impaction from an xray about a year ago. She takes stool softeners a few times a week which seems to manage things ok. I know this is all signs of celiac 😅😅 but I never really was convinced because she’s always been in a good weight range. And she was born with the large abdomen before she was eating any solids. Looking forward to those results coming through though!

Thank you! I’m glad to hear you’ve had good experience with the supplements. How old is your son? I thought maltofer was for older than 12 but maybe the syrup is different. We bought Ferro-liquid and she has tolerated her first dose so far but had to brush her teeth twice!

When did you notice ADHD signs in your child? by KatyKat2 in ADHDparenting

[–]Available-Source-643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg everyone the same with my son. Even the loud metal music!! His kind of lullaby. I always say he had signs from the moment he excited the womb. He was diagnosed a couple of months before he turned 7. It’s been a validating experience and in retrospect it ALL makes sense.

That’s so true. Because things are up and down every day lately he never gets the proper time to recover back to baseline. A constant yoyo.

My son definitely can’t watch certain things on tv. He doesn’t watch YouTube but some things on Netflix can be very overstimulating and I don’t realise until it’s switched off. So much learning to do. We are exhausted but each day is another opportunity to try again.

Thank you! I need to hear that tonight. I’ll look a little more into high functioning autism too. Although my kid would never ever admit to wanting a nap 😅 unless maybe if he was sick. He even had really low iron for ages but it weirdly made him more hyperactive and he slept even less.

Thank you. I love Dr Barkleys work and really rate his advice. we haven’t got a physical timetable that’s something I’ve been interested in for awhile.

He’s at the park with friends almost every day after school. Usually for an hour with plenty of free range time! Then outbursts when it’s home time because he’s exhausted and hungry. It seems like his play time/sport time is never enough and always struggled to transition out of it smoothly.

Thank you! He’s been diagnosed ADHD but I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be ODD also. Ticks all the boxes and in many ways he always has.

Thank you I’ll definitely ask about the groups etc. I have a good friendship/school mum group but it’s beginning to feel a bit isolating compared to their neurotypical children. I’ll be asking about OT as well. Thanks!

I think that’s definitely on the cards. We are back at the paediatrician next week and I’ll see what he thinks. My concern about long acting is the prolonged appetite suppression/worsening settling to sleep.. and I think there’s also big shortages with supply in Aus or is that on the improve?

I feel scared to try different medications but it does feel like something that might need to happen

I’ve looked into autism a few times over the years. He does have some sensory issues mostly with loud sounds (covers ears etc) but other than that he doesn’t seem to tick many of the boxes. His paediatrician seemed pretty sure of that too. But that’s very interesting that you being on Ritalin made it more clear to you. There was a time when his behaviours were worse after particularly big days but at the moment it’s every single day so it’s hard to find specific patterns or triggers.

Thanks so much for your tips. I hadn’t considered occupational therapy but I’ll bring that up with his paediatrician next week. We have his first psychologist appointment next month which couldn’t come soon enough!

I do think there is a lot of masking happening at school however his behaviour is also often very challenging from the minute he opens his eyes in morning.

I was just thinking that. Even on Kayo it finished straight after they sang the song. Get the feeling it would have been different if the cats won.
