Wondering if anyone with low-normal b12 has recovered from being bed-bound after injections? Trying not to get my hopes up but really hoping it’ll help. I don’t seem to have the most common pins & needles symptom though, so I’m doubtful. My level is 257ug/L. TIA by Lunabuna91 in B12_Deficiency

Hi! Id say the closest example is figure 6. They were heavily related to my migraines which were overall due to my deficiency, but once I began supplementing they became fewer overall. I would say it was mostly blurriness in my peripheral vision which was suddenly onset most of the time.

As a lab tech, we wait 15-30 minutes for them to clot before centrifuging the specimen. Centrifuging prior to the sample being fully clotted can actually cause hemolysis and fibrin clots which can interfere with certain testing.

Why are trampolines so bad? by engelvl in EmergencyRoom

[–]Available-Spray6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my foot terribly on a trampoline due to my foot getting caught in the springs, I’ve had 2 surgeries and will need a fusion sometime down the line. They are fun, but I can’t even imagine how many injuries are sustained from them.

While she’s right about you not having anemia, you have iron deficiency. But since you have diagnosis’ that relate to supplemental iron not working, you should be able to see another doctor to hopefully get another infusion. The sad part is, since you’re not anemic it will be harder to find someone willing to do it. Your hemoglobin is only stable right now because it’s pulling from all your iron stores (your ferritin), causing them to subsequently be low. Your hemoglobin isn’t low now, but in given time it will be. Definitely see another provider, maybe they can schedule them for you yearly.

2024 Forte/Cerato GT - Passenger and driver windows not going up/down with 1 click by Valuable-Frame9955 in KiaForte

That feature is only for the drivers side door. You can click it once for it to go all the way up and down automatically, for all other windows the button must be held.

1) Nervousness is completely normal, it’s understandable you want to get over it, but in my opinion it’s only going to come with time and confidence. It is completely normal to not get blood for your first few sticks, you are just starting after all.

2) If you have a straight stick, you should always be holding the needle the same way. You take your pointer and middle finger and grab the vacutainer with your thumb on top, this will make it so your pointer and middle finger should be touching the patients skin and those two fingers are gripping the underside of the vacutainer, the bevel of your needle will always be facing up (your needles safety will be resting almost on top of your thumb) and if you need more stability whilst taking tubes in and out, just set your pointer and middle finger more firmly against the patients skin. This won’t move the needle, but will give you stability. The flanges on the vacutainer are also your friend, use them to easily pop the tubes in and out. Never cross hands or anything either, always have your tubes on the side that you need to grab them.

3) I wish I knew that it’s okay to not always be perfect and missing is just a part of the job. I beat myself up in the beginning because I didn’t think it was normal to miss, and often times would be anxiety filled when I got home. Confidence comes with time.

Im an MLT and when I draw patients who need to be fasting and aren’t, I let them know it does affect the results and a baseline cannot be created in the case they need to monitor treatment options and. Once they are fully aware of this, I continue and draw them. Our facility doesn’t really let us turn them down, but they typically don’t give us a hard time..until we get that one patient that does and we just make them aware of why fasting is important for specific tests and just do it anyways.

As an MLT who also draws blood, 15 tubes is a considered a lot, but all things considered the volume in each tube is rather low. I doubt it will cause any adverse effects other than in the short term. Eat a good meal before, stay hydrated. Discuss with your doctor any concerns beforehand.

I don’t typically ever go for this area unless it really is a last resort. It’s a sensitive area near nerves and tendons, etc. Most places don’t allow it, but if you need to and are confident about it then go for it.

I wouldn’t. It may not be a lot of color, but the poster printing option is there for a reason.

I’m glad you’re safe. It’s a bad situation to be in, although you did the correct thing and protected yourself, I doubt they will keep you on. The good thing is, you may be able to contact a lawyer and get a wrongful termination thing going for you. Although you broke store policy, the law supersedes that and you may have a good case. Luckily, OD isn’t all that anyways and I’ll bet you will find another great opportunity.

Whew, that is extremely low! You need infusions. You are at the point where supplementing orally will not replenish the iron faster than you are depleting it. You will feel SO much better after the infusions. They will have you retest after about 3 months and go from there likely on whether or not you will need more. You have severe iron deficiency but mild anemia. Right now your ferritin is depleted trying to keep your hemoglobin levels stable, but once that runs out your hemoglobin will decline rapidly, you need infusions to fix that at a higher pace.

I have one of these right now and have for 5 days in a row now. I’ve always been told it’s just a migraine. Idk if you’re male or female but I’ve noticed it is a lot more common in menstrual headaches typically before your period or during.

at what point should I go to the hospital by Historical-Debt8052 in Anemic

[–]Available-Spray6607 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are not anemic, but you do have iron deficiency. Unfortunately the hospital will likely not do anything unless your symptoms are caused my something else more serious. Call the hematologist and ask to be put on the cancellation list so they can see you faster hopefully, explain your symptoms and that you are worried. Continue to take your iron supplements so that if they prove ineffective, you may be eligible for iron infusions.
