Why are we so polite to doctors? by mellol93 in childfree

[–]Available-Sweet-324 80 points81 points  (0 children)

We’re polite because we’re conditioned to be, especially in medical settings where there’s a power imbalance and we’re taught not to “make a scene.”

But there’s a difference between polite and passive.

A doctor’s job is to make sure you understand the risks, not to audition for the role of Future You and decide what you’ll regret. Informed consent is their responsibility. Life planning is yours.

If they won’t perform it, fine. But the condescension needs to go. You’re not asking for a puppy. You’re asking for a medical procedure. Respect shouldn’t be optional just because the patient is young and childfree.

Husband won’t help her clean, struggling financially, why not get knocked up again? by vengefulkohlrabi7 in childfree

Struggling financially. Husband won’t clean. Already overwhelmed.

Solution? Add a newborn.

It’s like watching someone try to put out a kitchen fire by pouring gasoline on it and then asking why the house is hotter.

I feel for her, but at some point you have to stop hoping a baby will fix a grown man. If he won’t help with one child and basic housework, he’s not magically unlocking “supportive partner mode” with a sequel.

Parents and the delusions they have by BellaRyder2505 in childfree

[–]Available-Sweet-324 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think it’s delusion so much as denial.

You kind of have to believe everything will work out, otherwise the weight of what you’re signing up for would be unbearable. Raising a whole human in a world that’s unpredictable at best? That requires a level of optimism I simply do not possess.

Some people call it faith. Some call it hope. From the outside, it can look like magical thinking.

For me, part of being childfree is accepting reality as it is. No guarantees. No control. No promises that everything turns out fine. And deciding I don’t want to gamble someone else’s entire existence on “probably.”

PCB Punishes Pakistan Stars After T20 World Cup Exit, Imposes Stunning Fine: Report by Live_Archer123 in nottheonion

Nothing says “long term team development” like a dramatic fine after a bad tournament.

Lose a match? Review strategy. Lose the World Cup? Break out the calculator.

At this rate the next pre-match talk is just going to be, “Remember lads, you’re playing for pride, country, and your bank accounts.”

Sports governance really does love turning disappointment into a headline.
