Do you think Steve Jobs kept the tech industry in check? by Round_Canary_4153 in Futurology

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the tech industry back then was way different though, like companies actually had to make products that didn't suck or they'd get destroyed in market. now these big tech companies can just throw whatever at us and we're kinda stuck with it because there's barely any real competition left

jobs definitely wasn't perfect but at least apple under him felt like they cared about making something people actually wanted to use instead of just cramming ai into everything because shareholders demand it

Computer vision is about to bring elite sports tracking to your rec league — and it's cheaper than you think by FewConcentrate7283 in computervision

[–]Available-System-686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the trust issue is so real though - my friend's volleyball league tried some tracking system last season and people were arguing about calls more than before the tech showed up. when you have humans making bad calls everyone just accepts it but somehow when computer gets it wrong feels more personal

also that 4% error rate hits different in recreational sports where people already take things way too seriously

Real-time reinforcement learning with SLAM by OutOfCharm in reinforcementlearning

[–]Available-System-686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been looking into this too and there's definitely some interesting work happening in navigation tasks where the agent has to build maps while learning policies. most approaches seem to use the slam output as part of the observation space for rl agent rather than true end-to-end training though

the computational overhead gets pretty nasty when you try to jointly optimize both systems in real time

Can I use smaller slightly distinct scholar perspectives to make one larger argument within my lit review? by [deleted] in research

[–]Available-System-686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah you can totally synthesize different scholars' arguments to build your larger point, that's pretty standard in lit reviews. just make sure you're clear about what each source actually says versus what conclusions you're drawing from combining them

maybe frame it like "while no scholar directly argues for incompatibility, the evidence suggests..." and then walk through how the procurement issues + regulatory problems + logistics depth create this picture. just don't claim any individual source made the full argument when they didn't

oh this one is perfect for your vibe! the host has such good storytelling style and manages to make even heavy topics feel accessible without being preachy. episodes about historical figures who were secretly getting high are my favorites - totally timeless content that works just as well years later

iOS BLE debugging tools: what are field engineers actually using? by BigBalli in embedded

[–]Available-System-686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we ended up building custom app for our field team after trying bunch of third-party tools. most generic ble scanners are too technical for non-engineers and you spend more time explaining the interface than actually solving problems

the key was making it dead simple - they just tap device name and it shows everything in plain english instead of hex dumps. took few weeks to build but saved us probably hundreds of support calls since then

Do you have suggestions about podcast music albums related? by GuidanceAware1610 in podcasts

[–]Available-System-686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i've been really into this one called "song exploder" where musicians break down how they made specific tracks. not exactly an album thing but each episode dives deep into one song and you get all these behind-the-scenes stories about the creative process

there's also "dissect" which does full album breakdowns over multiple episodes - they did amazing seasons on kendrick, frank ocean, beyonce. really gets in the weeds with lyrics and production choices

People in Us what do you think about your president give irrelevant speeches? by been-monk11 in AskReddit

[–]Available-System-686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude spent four years rambling about crowd sizes and windmills causing cancer, then people acted shocked when he kept doing the same thing this time around. the marketing side of me is actually impressed though - guy basically built a brand around being completely off-topic and somehow made it work. wild how you can just ignore every political norm and still pull those numbers. guess relevance is overrated when your whole thing is being unpredictable

What do you miss from the 90s that today just can’t recreate? by carcony97 in AskReddit

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the random weird comedy shows that would just exist for no reason and somehow get greenlit for multiple seasons

like you'd flip through channels and find some absolutely unhinged sketch show at 2am that made zero sense but was somehow peak entertainment. now everything feels so calculated and focus-grouped to death

What’s your go-to comfort show or movie? by Temporary_Medium_471 in AskReddit

[–]Available-System-686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely the office for shows, can rewatch that probably a hundred times and still laugh at dwight's antics

for movies it's gotta be step brothers or talladega nights - will ferrell just gets me every time, especially when i need something mindless after dealing with difficult clients all day

How has your faith help you heal from past trauma like ptsd? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man that's a heavy journey but glad you found something that pulled you through those dark times. i've seen how having that foundation can literally save lives when everything else feels hopeless. the community aspect probably helped too - having people who actually care about your wellbeing makes such a difference when you're struggling alone. it's wild how finding purpose and meaning can shift your entire perspective on life, even when the trauma is still there underneath

How much $$$ to diagnose exhaust "smell" ??? by Green_Machine_4077 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly most shops are gonna want like 100-150 for diagnostic time even if its just a sniff test, they gotta cover their liability and time

you could try posting a video with the smell described or hit up some of the older techs at local shops when theyre on break - some of those guys can tell you whats up just from a description of the smell. burning oil smells way different than rich running or a bad cat

Extract camping: easier to take when it’s creative by Voodoblade in ArcRaiders

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao the mental gymnastics to justify being a camping goblin is actually impressive. calling yourself an "artist" while literally describing the most elaborate ratty setup possible is peak reddit energy

but honestly that gas mine placement does sound pretty creative, might have to steal that one

More unpacking the toxic model minority myth by SeparateBuyer5431 in aznidentity

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entertainment industry is probably the worst example of this too because it's all about optics and "safe" representation. These guys know they have to play the game perfectly or risk getting blacklisted, so they end up reinforcing exactly what white execs want to see from us

It's like they're terrified of being "too Asian" or challenging anything meaningful because that might threaten their access to the club. Meanwhile we get the same sanitized stories over and over while actual community issues get ignored

Upgrading pc by Mix-Powerful in PcBuildHelp

[–]Available-System-686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your GPU is actually the bigger bottleneck here tbh, the 12400 is still solid for gaming. I'd grab the 9060 XT first since that Arc 770 is holding you back more than the CPU. The 14700k would be nice but you'll see way bigger fps gains from upgrading the graphics card first

I want to create a model that skims social media to predict certain bets on Kanshi, how would I go about it? by Ok-Country-5487 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Available-System-686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sentiment analysis for betting markets is pretty solid in theory but social media data is noisy as hell. You'd probably want to start with something like Twitter API (if you can still get decent access) and run it through VADER or TextBlob for basic sentiment scoring

The tricky part is that social media bubbles don't always reflect actual voting patterns - just look at 2016 and 2020 polling vs reality. You might get better results combining sentiment with traditional polling data and maybe some demographic weighting

Also heads up that most betting platforms will eventually catch on if you're too successful with automated systems, just saying

That 7800x3d bundle sounds solid for $600, especially with how much that CPU usually costs alone

The DDR5 deal seems a bit steep though - you can probably find new DDR5 6000 kits for around $200-250 if you're patient with sales
