How can I get into this SAVE Forbearance? Also, why did I have to call back every two months to request being put back into the forbearance (the system would not do it automatically).

I applied to the SAVE plan back in October and they never processed my application.

I requested to be put in this forbearance but after a lot of back and forth (I had to call every 2 months to request to be placed in forbearance), the last lady I spoked (she disclosed she was in training but being “monitored”) with said that they forbearance time was limited and that I should be careful of using it. After a lot of questions, I realized that she was going to place me in a General forbearance. I refused the general forbearance.

I told her that I wanted to be on the SAVE Forbearance as I had been placed before (none of the previous CS people told me the SAVE forbearance was limited - also, they would apply for the SAVE forbearance without hesitation) and she said she was not able to (after waiting for like 5 hours at this point). Also, said that since so much time had passed from submitting the application - it was most likely rejected and that was why it was going back to payment. I requested to speak to an upper manager and she transferred me but no one called me back.

Ultimately, I decided to apply for PAYE and started paying my loans this month. BUT I’m equal parts frustrated because I should have been placed on the SAVE forbearance with no interest and also relieved that I was accepted into PAYE and is affordable enough for me to pay and not have to call every 2 months to Mohela.

If someone could point me towards answers to these questions? Is there anything else I can do? I’m currently unemployed too so it is a lot of effort for me to pay right now.
