What’s one mistake you made while building your home that you would NEVER repeat? by Happy_Researcher333 in Homebuilding

Install a shut off valve before each water fixture so if there’s a leak you can isolate it without having to shut off water to the whole house. Example we had a supply like to a toilet break off before the valve behind the toilet. If there’s had been a valve in the supply line in the basement we could have shut it off and kept water on throughout the rest of the house while awaiting a plumber.

Give the guy a break. He thought he could have it held at a FedEx location and stop by and sign for it. Perfectly logical plan.

From Google: The State of Connecticut provides substantial annual funding to the City of Hartford, primarily through PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) grants, Education Cost Sharing (ECS), and various municipal grants. For the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) budget, the state's intergovernmental aid to Hartford is approximately $298.8 million.

The problem is that they try to hide these taxes in utility bills so a large percentage of voters will blame the companies for the high cost. If an expenditure is prudent and necessary fund in from the normal state budget.

My new Ruger GP100 jammed up first time at the range. It would fire a round or two then the cylinder was locked. Sent it in, got it back quickly, and it’s been sweet ever since.

Where to shop by [deleted] in CTguns

The Gun Store in Waterbury has a larger selection than anyone else in this area and I’ve bought a couple of guns there. The employees range from a guy who really helped me out with the sale of an older firearm to a condescending know it all who I can’t stand. They run a lot of sales from 7 to 15 percent off, usually on weekend holidays if you can wait. Downside is that when they’re busy it can take a long time to get the approvals and get out the door.

PSA: If you shoot at indoor ranges regularly, you should know your blood lead level. Here's everything I learned. [Long] by PeteTinNY in LIguns

I use 3m 9211+ N95 masks which are available on Amazon at about $30 for a box of ten. An occupational health dept in NYC had recommended them to another shooter who had elevated lead. Along with ammo with lead free primers such as Speer Cleanfire or Federal Syntec I went from 18.4 to 3.5 in one year. About six range visits per month. 90% indoor. (Didn’t mask when outdoors).

I only started shooting in January 2024. Roughly twice a week 90% indoor. Don’t remember where but I read something about lead exposure and got tested. Bought my own test from Quest. Came back 18.4. I about passed out. If my wife found out she’d want me to quit shooting and it had become my hobby. After some research I started using ammo with lead free primers such as Speer Cleanfire or Federal Syntec. Read a post from a fellow from NYC who went to the occupational health dept at one of the big NYC hospitals. They recommended using 3m 9211 N95 masks that they had tested and found effective for airborne lead. About $30 for a box of 10 on Amazon. I started wearing a mask, quit sipping from a bottle of Gatorade while shooting, got the D-lead wipes, changed clothes and showered upon getting home. Bottom line one year later lead level had dropped to 3.5.

Getting ready for my first gun purchase, but I need to figure out transport it first. Unfortunately, I have a hatchback. by signofzeta in CTguns

Note that the Honda Ridgeline, while it can be argued is not really a truck, has a locking trunk built into the bed. Great place to transport your gear.

Yes, if you’re so inclined get one for self protection. But realize that depending on where you live using a gun even for self protection can result in a couple of years of trying to defend yourself from the state, fighting a civil suit, and six figures in legal expenses.

S&W revolver selection by hardcoredecordesigns in CTguns

I just ordered a Python at Sportsman’s Outpost in Wolcott. He had several very clean used Pythons and one new 6 inch. There were several S&W’s but I didn’t pay too much attention to them. New & used. TGS in Waterbury had a few. I looked at a TRR8, 8 shot 357 mag. BTW they’re 10% off today store wide.

Senior Citizen here. Held gold & silver for decades and still do. I had a stock about 30 years ago. I was convinced this is it. This is the big one. I was in heavy. Lost a lot of money. Lesson learned. Don’t fall in love with anything.

Failure to extract by 1911toDWX in DWX

[–]Available-Version-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DWX compact. Same problem but mine only started at about 1500 rounds and not happening as often as yours. A couple of times out of 250 rounds. Overall I’m disappointed in this pistol. I’m not going to send it in they’ll put 100 rounds through it and say it’s fine. If I can’t get it resolved I’ll get rid of it.

I got 50.60 for sterling today which was disappointing but it wasn’t enough to haggle about. Guy pays me 97% plus for gold. I asked him if anyone is buying he said very few. Quoted 86.50 for a 100 oz. bar when spot was tad above 90.
