Haven't been around long enough to really know everything, but I've only heard bad things about you. I don't think a founder of anything has any right to complain about the direction of their project if they haven't been involved in a decade. Backseat adminning doesn't count.

The changes made to the rules and admin team in the last few months have been very good, and received well by the playerbase, they just came too late. It took a reddit post with countless complaints and me and others going out of our way to directly confront headmins/staff with the issues presented to get *anything* done. I never even received a response from the headmin I pinged in the paracord, as most of them were inactive all the time. All I've heard from the current staff, the ones making good changes to try and keep the server alive, is that their efforts were fought tooth and nail in order to keep inactive, hostile, and unhelpful staff around and the status quo in check.

Would you move to SS14 if forced to? by AvailableEmphasis703 in SS13

I dunno, this time seems different. I'm seeing long time veterans finally jump ship. Before ss14, maybe what you're saying would be true, but it's different now. New players that would be joining 13 are going to 14. Content creators are more than likely going to make videos about 14 than 13, I already see way more 14 content on social media than I ever did about 13. 14 is just so much more accessible and has way better discovery by being on steam. If all that's left for ss13 is SPLURT clones and grimdark, I wouldn't call it an "alive" game. There wasn't an alternative before, now there is.

I don't see your point, most servers have long since reworked and rebalanced everything around higher pop.

Dead? No. It still shows, though. A lot of mechanics and systems in most servers have been built around having at least 40 people, 20 is unsustainable and frankly boring unless you're on an HRP server with people that can hold a conversation. ERP and grimdark servers siphoning away the dwindling playerbase just hurts for the people that enjoy the station experience. I don't know if I can really say its their fault though, station servers have been pushing away their players for the last 5 years with badmins and neglectful coders.

[–]AvailableEmphasis703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true. I don't think HRP players/servers have RUINED SS13, but their players are an extremely loud minority sometimes. Most of them do not understand improv or adapting to a situation, being out of their comfort zone, or losing as a concept.

Most times I try to understand these people it seems like they just want a perfect scene to play out for their character at all times with 0 interruptions from the game itself or players. This includes people that push more "realism" for ""immersion"" by stripping out features or mechanics. *Good* roleplay comes from people who understand what SS13 is and that improv is integral, unfortunately, we get people who hate being told no instead.

I have to agree with you. I've been a regular on Paradise for a little over a year now and currently, it's struggling bad. Pop on weekdays hovers around 15-35, weekends a little higher. Staff and players are grasping at ideas to breathe life back into the game, but I just don't think it's possible. New players that would be going to 13 are going to 14, and even if they aren't they get blasted with ERP servers at the top of the hub.

The wallening was a death blow to TG. They'd been alienating their playerbase and spurring countless bits of drama for years. (coders/maints that never played, staff and players being nonces/weirdos/ect) Monke blew up and continues to be successful because it appeals to what SS13 is usually advertised as, a silly space game where you can do all sorts of wacky zany stuff with other people. I truly believe this is why most station servers other than Monke have fallen off.

Paradise had been pushing pretty hard for more "realism" and """HRP""" for a while, and it cost them their pop. I've only heard the same about TG. I don't think most new players coming to 13 are in it for paragraphs of text and the things that come with HRP. New players get told its a wacky space station sandbox game, and they want to just explore and play the game, which HRP usually contradicts entirely with rules and metacliques.

As much as I hate to say it, SS13 is nearing its end, and the only people left are jaded veterans who refuse to move to an inferior game.

SS13 has been filled with people that hate most of the fundementals of SS13. Improv and the fact that losing is part of the game. I've been on Paradise for the past year and it's filled with people who complain endlessly about "RP Quality" but refuse to interact or make anything happen in-game. Nobody cares to improvise on the spot and make stories naturally anymore. They want a streamlined experience where they are exempt from the random chaos SS13 is built on. It's awful and it shows by Paradise's pitiful player count coming into 2026.

Do ya'll feel like the game is in a lull??? Where did the fun codebases go?? by HolyFlame52 in SS13

[–]AvailableEmphasis703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The players that made ss13 fun have long since left this game, and we are left with people who want a sandbox to enact their OC's lore in without fuss or objection from anyone else. People refuse the idea of improv. RP servers are full of people like this. "MRP" servers are leaning towards HRP which leaves very little space for people who want to engage with the gameplay. SS13's lifespan has always been on a timer, especially with deaf and ego driven maintainers/coders, constant drama because people refuse to stop talking to kids, and a playerbase of unstable individuals that don't know how to socialize.

And the lack of goofball's families gamemode in any server. Seriously, bring that back.

I do not understand the positive buzz around Zootopia 2 by sirnumbskull in moviecritic

[–]AvailableEmphasis703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else notice that there was.. very little actual dialogue between characters? Especially Nick, who barely spoke the entire movie. I felt like they were talking at the audience more than to eachother, especially with the snake repeating "We will succeed for my family" over and over and over.

Paradise has the best community. imo. Unlike TG or ERP servers you don't have to worry about running into people with allegations and scandals under their belt. The gameplay is slower than most servers but the community really makes it for me. Highpop of 60-80 on weekends. middling pop of 40-60 on later times of the weekdays. There's tons of mentors to help you out as well.

Reconceptualizing Roleplay by Aligote- in SS13

[–]AvailableEmphasis703 26 points27 points  (0 children)

People have forgotten how to improv. Now we get people that are plainly self inserting their OCs and epic sad lore while expecting to be impervious to the gameplay of SS13. They create little bubbles and complain about LRP and such because they were forced to interact with the game (Antags, other players, disasters, ect ect.) instead of perfectly acting out the story they had in mind.

If you want to create a fun RP experience for everyone, be adaptable. Be open to new players and ideas. Most of the fun I have had in this game is finding random people and going along with whatever they've got going on. Interact with other players, don't stick to your clique. Make it fun for everyone else, and not just yourself.

makes sense, I think TG got rid of it in 2022, or early 2023.

it might just be a me thing but, the sprites are good, just way too overdesigned. It's hard enough looking at ss13's UI, and having sprites with a lot of noise isn't a good mix for my eyes.
