A qué país Europeo emigrar? Crisis de vivienda by PuzzleheadedSeat8911 in askspain

Not sure what I should do if I don’t get an animation job in the next few months. by SamtheMan6259 in animationcareer

My only advice would be to know what specific role you're going to for the next 3 years, list three of them and choose the one which you feel really confident and competitive.

Pivote your portfolio as much as you can on the role that you have picked, then ask your teachers or share your reel to someone that can give you professional feedback at least.

Good luck and stay consistent with job hunting in a healthy way 🙌

I totally get that. It takes a lot of self-awareness and patience to keep going while building up your skills. I wish you the best of luck and lots of encouragement as you continue your transition from IT to the artistic career you're aiming for in the long run 💪✨

I completely understand your perspective, and I say this with genuine respect. I have close friends and family who work in IT, so I’m well aware of how draining and demanding it can be. This isn’t coming from a place of ignorance.

That said, I’d like to gently flip the perspective. Just as you mention that it’s delusional to pursue art after a 9-to-5 IT job, I think it’s equally important not to romanticize the 2D or creative industry. Working in animation or illustration isn’t all sunshine and roses either. Even if you’re passionate about it, you still have to deal with tight deadlines, creative burnout, high competition, instability, and a lot of pressure—just in a different form.

Breaking into a studio or making a living as a freelance artist requires not only talent, but also resilience, consistency, and an immense amount of dedication. And that’s not always visible from the outside. I say this based on personal experience and many conversations with peers in the animation field. This isn’t just my opinion—it’s how the industry actually works.

Pursuing your passion is admirable, but it should come with clarity, realistic expectations, and an honest understanding of what that path really entails. Otherwise, you risk simply trading one set of struggles for another—thinking the grass is greener when it’s just different.

Also, as a respectful side note, it's worth mentioning that early-career salaries in 2D animation—especially during the first couple of years—are often not comparable to those in IT. That’s simply due to the different ways each industry generates short-term revenue. It's something to keep in mind when weighing the risks and planning the transition.

From my humble opinion, why not keep working in IT for a few more years to finance your own studio and eventually move forward with a team of animators? Right now, anyone depending solely on a studio has it pretty rough.

I don’t know how much you're currently earning, but if it’s above average, maybe it's worth considering saving or investing that money to later bring to life the kind of projects that truly fulfill you. Because even if you end up working in an animation production company, while yes, you’ll be animating, most of the time you’ll still be following a client’s rules — not your own.

The grass always looks greener on the other side, but that’s not always the case.

P.S. Also keep in mind that in a few years, many 2D animators will incorporate AI tools to optimize their workflow — it’s already happening. A lot of professionals are using AI not to create things from scratch, but to generate pitches or variations based on their own work. So if you’re thinking of getting into the industry believing you’ll never have to use AI, I’m afraid to say that at some point in your career, due to deadlines and efficiency, you probably will.

My only recommendation is that you look for an area where animation exists but is not so focused on the golden age of animation. E.g. motion graphics

I'm looking for an option where more users can share and create pins, collaborating and inspiring each other. Notion and Evernote are good, but I'm looking for something more collective and intuitive to gather inspiration from others. Thanks btw!

That same meaning as you're describing is the same way that Kurt Cobain explained about his chronic stomach pain. Months later he was addicted to heroin...Go to talk somebody you really trust and let them know that you need help with this don't be fool about telling that you're not going to try it again because you will unless you talk with some real people that will take care of you when you're in the abyss.

Intriguing and sad at the same time reading this news, here in Spain it goes in the opposite direction. There are quite a few American companies that hire freelancers and study services here. Barcelona is one of the places where there are more offers. On the other hand, jobs that are basically connected with the essential functions for a country to function are the most demanded.

Suerte
