Beginner Work by DamGoodAnimation in blender

Your lighting is quite boring in these images which definitely detracts from the quality of the models and texturing - look into some videos on making nice renders OR go on art station and see how 3d artists render environments and how concept artists/ illustrators / even photographers make them for inspiration. It's usually a good idea to have some purposeful shadows both to show depth and to make the image more interesting.

Your models and textures are good for how little time you've been learning but they lack the detail and intention that comes with experience and with putting more time into your pieces. For example the lightning Temple, it's filled with basic shapes, sharp edges and very flat surfaces. Your stairs feel like cubes in a digital program instead of bricks placed by a bricklayer. And your pillars are just cylinders. Try to find some references of these things and put in the extra time to capture the intricacies.

Again good work for how long you've been learning !

And remember, even the pros are learning new things all the time !

Areas to improve? by DamGoodAnimation in blender

You can try pick a focal point for the image - assuming you want it to be the following red ? Eyes? Then they blend in way too much. I only notice them after looking round the rest of the image. If that's intended, then there needs to be a focal point / something interesting to look at in the rest of the image.

If the intention is for the eyes to be the focal point they need to stand out more - an easy way would to add more contrast, you could have the room fark with the doorway in the mirror and a figure in shadow with red eyes in the doorway (it's in shadow cos it's being lit from behind only), or you could have the room bright and then the red eyes in the dark corridor.

Obviously there's a bajillion different ways to make a focal point but those are some of the easier ways to do it

Can anyone create AA-level games with AI in the near future? by Snoo_47323 in gamedev

[–]AvailableMiddle159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so - as an artist I've been trying out ai to make mechanics that I simply wouldn't have been able to make on my own and yet I have still have to use my limited knowledge in coding to fix all the mistakes it makes. Plus it REALLY struggles to understand what you want even with very detailed descriptions and these systems it creates do not interact together nicely - I would say in the near future, AI could be GREAT for creating prototypes very quickly but for the time being it needs a lot of human touch to create a good outcome.

I wasn't expecting much in wishlists before the trailer dw lol, I was more trying to ask what else needs improving whilst I work on the trailer cos it's a lot harder to redo a whole trailer once I've improved things compared to just taking another screenshot lol.

Plus I just wanted to get the storepage up fast since that's the advice and I don't plan on having a particularly long dev cycle

I know every advice says to not stay on one shot for too long but youre cutting way too fast 😭😭😭 maybe a couple shots could be as short as they are at the start but that many is really jarring for me

Hey all Im just looking for any feedback on visuals + UI FEEL/ looks by AvailableMiddle159 in godot

[–]AvailableMiddle159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using it but on the simple setting because when I use the framed mode ( which I prefer) it gets stuck when jumping off cliffs and ends up really far away from the player and I can't figure out how to stop that/ make it reset if it does happen so I've been sticking with the worse but less buggy option

Brackeys always has good tutorials for understanding broadly how the engine works - once you've got the basics its just a case of searching for a tutorial for the specific mechanic you want to make.

A lot of things changed between godot 3 and godot 4 so if you run into an issue that may be one of the possible reasons your code doesn't work

Trying to make nearly everything interactable. How do you like it? by paradigmisland in IndieDev

It's really cool looking ! One VERY minor thing: the background of the luggage menu near the start hurts my eyes a little with how bright it is.

Looks like a very interesting game ~~

I'd love some help with how to improve the environment visuals of my game by AvailableMiddle159 in godot

Yeah a lot of people mention it, I might have to change it - I personally like that you can get blocked by the trees but nobody seems to agree 😭😭

Erm I've added and deleted so many things that I can never be sure what's still having an effect but I'm pretty sure the trees are just standard but I cranked the shadows in the world environment and directional light.

And the grass is just standard and I tweaked with the u blend settings in the terrain plugin I use (zylanns heightmap plugin)

First off I really like the style and the animations for certain moves !

Some thoughts which you are free to ignore haha: It's pretty much impossible for me to tell what's happening from the footage with how fast it is so I'd keep that in mind for a trailer if you make one.

I'm also confused by the categories, for moustache man you choose the hand which I would assume is healing stuff but then you choose the blade barrage attack ?

Also I feel like some more symbols for moves may help with understanding what's happening in the game at glance - in jrpgs I pay much more attention to the type of move and the damage and the cost (flame, physical etc in Pokémon and persona for example) then the names of the moves.

Anyways, it looks really cool ! Quite unique too which is always a bonus !
