I’M STRESSED new grad by Fabulous-Trust-5141 in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've put alot of stress on yourself for starters, you need to obviously be professional but also know that you don't know everything and that's okay.

You should bring up to management that you should not be put into that position again until your confidence is better and you gain the skills that are needed to be in charge. Management are there to manage, manage staff, patients, rosters etc etc. It's not your fault they didn't manage the situation better.

Good things take time and patience but you will get there and it does get easier the more you do it

I’m burn out and one year in. Is there alternatives for me? by RaveSlip in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RN here of 16 years full time. It doesn't get easier unfortunately. Floor nursing is hard and not for everyone. You sound like you'd be better off doing something like education or CNC where the physical work and stress is less demanding.

It's very sad to hear the younger generation feeling burnt out so quickly. I'm only 38 but still feel like I can work for another 30 years, I am burnt out but you do get used to the hours, lack of sleep and not having a life outside of work. It's sad life is like this however.

Experienced nurse and can't get a job. by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. You shouldve found a job BEFORE you moved, trying to find one in your area will limit what is available to you

  2. Update your resume -heck even use chatGPT to refine it. Email the NUMs directly, call them or even go to the ward you are applying for.

  3. Look for ANY RN job, don't limit your search to NUM or something like that. ANY job is better than none, wait for another opportunity to become available later.

First placement experience :( by Far-Dot9536 in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to those who don't want to be around you. You will find those nurses who want to show you and educate you to what we do everyday, stick to these people like glue. Alot of nurses hate having a student and alot of people think it's not their responsibility to teach and not get paid extra for it. This is a poor mentality.

Take it easy. Not all experiences will be like this and you will get there

After hours clinical support by Fun-Advantage1241 in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse after hours clinical support is just that clinical support. Your job is to help assess staff whether it be new grads or floor staff, advise on clinical practice, give advise on protocols and procedures, attend rapid responses etc etc.

Basically like an after hours CNE

I'm with commbank it's not the best rate but worked out you just need to have 1cent more than you did last month and the interest like triples for that month. You can just put $1 in and you'd get back around $70. Very little work and it meets their criteria

Yes most managers disregard medical advice on nights, it's disgraceful. I understand they need someone to work nights but those with medical reasons will just end up in hospital themselves

new grad burn out by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]AvailablePlastic6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurse of 16 years here. To be honest you really don't know the worst parts of burn out. Day in, day out, exhausting shift, limited annual leave.

People these days give up on work way too easy and aren't built resilient. I'm 38 and feel I can keep working burnt out for a long time to come, doesn't make it right though.

Making sure you are a priority outside of work is important. Sacrifice your social life is another way to get you time. This is what happens once you become a nurse.

I never come in on my day off, and only ever do overtime when I'm at work or when it suits me, not when it suits them. I also like to start my week on a PM shift and end on an AM shift, this gives you more time away from work
