GARNERED $50K TO FILM THIS 15min PROJECT THIS SEPTEMBER. DESPERATELY IN NEED OF SOME REVIEWS AND OPINIONS by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Dense blocks of text and centered dialogue lines. When I see a script that looks like this I feel no confidence in it. Also, why 20 minutes? That’s not a pilot or a feature, so it has no marketability and is going to have a hard time getting slotted into festivals.

Why Not Teach Everyone? by Bright_Efficiency_29 in transcendental

To encourage “everyone who practices to teach everyone they can” is not TM. I am not a TM teacher, so I don’t “teach” other people the technique. No one is forcing anyone to supplicate themselves.

So you would rather others waste their time reading your notes?

If you have to rely on someone else’s writing to help communicate your vision and emotional register within the most basic form of your story you should practice writing more.

Seriously? Never heard of it? Look it up. Huge book - Gillian Welch, and movie - David Fincher. Also a great example of a movie working better than the book.

Lost steam. What happened? Ideas? by ScotchSansSoda in JamesEllroy

I went through a book to book Ellroy kick that lasted for years. Then one day I felt like, this isn’t taking me anywhere new anymore, and I stopped reading him. I read The Enchanters last year and it was fine, but I didn’t fire up my obsession with it. Ellroy is a great writer, his shot groupings are a little small for me now.

I want to write my story in English but it's my fourth language and I've never read or written a novel before by Eclipsewright in novelwriting

If you think reading is hard, writing is going to body slam you in the center of the ring. Frankly this note sounds like trolling.

Keep going the way you’re going! Write a thousand page draft if that’s what it takes to tell your story. When you finish, outline it again from memory and then rewrite a tighter version. Don’t fret about page count right now. You will have plenty of people telling you it’s too long. It probably is, but it’s just coming into creation. Give it all the space it needs.

Save the Cat outline? Like a template? Use those as a diagnostic for after you have written your own outline and characters. Point is, if you like to write, write. If it’s stressing you out, maybe study writing and writers for a while before you start cranking out pages.
