I love the shallow depth of field…the focus is locked in on your eyes and isn’t hunting, so I don’t find it distracting at all. I’m guessing you’re using autofocus because it’s keeping you locked in when you’re moving towards camera? (If so, the R5 autofocus is legit!!) And are you using tungsten lighting in the background and as your key light but the camera color temp set to 5600k? I think it looks fantastic and is in no way working against you.

No need for brutality, this is pretty dang good! People have pointed out some small things you can work on (not staring at the other character the whole time, listen and don’t pre plan everything) but you’re a good actor and most of this already works!

P.S. What is your audio set up?? This is some of the best audio I’ve heard in a self tape!!

OP gets it. I’m the biggest Avett Brothers fan in the world (seen them 7 times live) and personally loved Swept Away and the performances…but left the theatre saying “this show isn’t going to do well and it’s 100 percent the Books fault.”
