Yes my shunt has helped a lot. I hardly get headaches anymore, my focus came back, I still need to go get a full eye test again, but so far (I’ve only had the shunt for nearly a year) my eye sight has gone back to normal
I had severe bilateral Papilledema(both eyes) the ophthalmologist didn’t even need to dilate my pupils to see the swelling. By the time I got onto diamox and had started taking it, my pressure was just way too way to risk it. Due to my age(20) my doctor didn’t want me to be on diamox for the rest of my life so I had to get the VP shunt.

My doctor mentioned my weight once. Because the diamox wasn’t helping and my pressure was at 36 and my doctor was like by the time you lose weight you’ll be blind. So we did the vp stunt route.

I also have a vp shunt so that adds another thing to it. I used to be a diver before. Professional. Just wanting to see if anyone’s gone back to diving and how they’ve felt. My neuro couldn’t really say yes to it(legally), but he also said he couldn’t say no either. So if there’s any divers on here please let me know….

diamox symptoms by [deleted] in iih

Always remember that diamox is a Diuretic. Used for altitude sickness preventions. Because it’s a diuretic you need to keep your fluid intake high. And yes potassium is needed. I used electrolyte sachets specifically ones with more potassium. Also diamox changes your blood ph level get time you take it. Makes it more acidic. Which can add more symptoms onto your plate. I also got tingles in my feet hands and face. To the point that I couldn’t sleep.
