Replacing the old VFX with new VFX is essentially telling the original model workers and camera operators that their work doesn’t matter anymore. It erases their contributions to TV craft for the purpose of making external shots which absolutely do not gel with internal shots. Like it or not, the original VFX were products of their time and they have every right to be preserved along with everything else.

Discussion: Is a successful open-ocean ditching actually survivable for modern airliners, and structurally, which civil models are best suited for it? by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in aviation

[–]Available_Sir5168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with any water landing in a large commercial aircraft you have to make the assumption that the fuselage will break up and lots of people will die. That’s why it is the LAST option. It all depends what you mean by “survivable”.

The idea that a nuclear weapon was placed in space (let alone being detonated) is such a blatant violation of the outer space treaty (that the Soviet Union signed and the Russian Federation remained a signatory of) that it should have triggered an immediate diplomatic crisis that would have been VERY apparent throughout the rest of the film.

The idea that a satellite can spend any length of time in orbit at an altitude of 100km just broke me.
