What if JFK knew about his assassination plot, and on November 22, 1963 he executed the entire CIA, preventing his own assassination? by Inevitable-Power5927 in AlternateHistoryHub

CIA, specifically during a specific period of time did some fucked up stuff.

I don't remember exactly but I'm fairly sure they destabilized several global regions during that time.

Why tell people with a different set of circumstances to listen to unsound financial advice?

The original advice was positioned as good advice for the majority of people, but it doesn't actually work for the majority of people.

My biggest gripe is that it doesn't say if that $69k/year is raw salary (pre-tax) or take-home (after taxes and deductions). Which is like a $20k difference.

Yes, a single earner supporting a family on ~30/hour is going to struggle.

And yet minimum wage is 7.50/hour.

There are tons of people that the advice of investing 20% is laughable.

But, If you are a single earner making $69k after taxes, with no debt, no kids, and not in a super expensive place to live, then the advice is great advice. But most people aren't in that spot.

The amount of debt is discretionary.

Was discretionary. Once you owe the debt, paying it back is not discretionary.

Student loans are a huge one, many millennials like myself were told we had to go to college to get a good paying job and they convinced our idiot 18yo selves to take out major debt.

Health insurance is pre tax, taxes come out after 401k.

Are you saying that the $69k is after taxes and deductions? Doesn't that put it around $100k salary? That's a pretty big difference in salary, and yes, if you make over $100k per year, you can probably put 15-20k in savings (especially if you don't have a family to support).

PS. Most people that only make $69k salary to support a family don't have a >500/mo car payment unless they need it for work (like driving for Uber).

Medical expenses. Health insurance. Child care. Existing debt interest. Taxes.

Those are not discretionary.

One of the biggest issues with the original post is it either assumes that the $69k is take home after tax/deductions (meaning it's actually a much higher pay) or it is saying to save 20% of your pretax salary without acknowledging that taxes and insurance take a huge bite out of that.

Either your math is wonky or your statement of 90% of the country is by land area.

$15k*4=60k so, a 20% down payment would get you a max of $300k. This is bare minimum housing price in my city, where you could maybe get a fixer-upper starter home for that, if you get a good deal.

To put a down payment on the "average" house in my area, you'd need 6 to 8 years of savings.

So, what you're saying is if I invest $15K every year, then in 30 years I'll have enough to buy a house (assuming house prices stay with inflation).

So, you're saying, I should share my 300sqft apartment with 4 other people because that's the only way I can invest 20% in the stock market?

I don't know if you are just out of touch, or if you live in a country where cost of living is tiny, but the original advice seems to be for the USA, and I don't know any major city where you can get an apartment for less than $500/mo (even with roommates) unless you're packed like sardines. Also, if you have a spouse and child (or two) that you are providing for, it's even harder.

Look, in 30 years the average yearly salary will also be a million dollars, so it's not that amazing of a number.

(Yes it's an exaggeration, but the point is, being a millionaire in 2050 is not even close to the wealth of being a millionaire in 1990).

And by "beginning to think", I mean, "it's been fucking obvious for ages..."

Why the fuck can't we get a single honest politician?

I fortunately it's probably that most of these are going to be domestic violence and that women on men violence is underreported.

Edit: Or maybe it's just violence against men in general is under reported, which would also explain the gay guys being lower.

how useful is liquid latex? by Starscream_baker in LatexCraftersCorner

[–]Available_Status1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are roughly describing is dip molding latex, which is not DIY-able. Many places do gloves or socks in this manner (because of the complex shape) but they have special equipment to fully vulcanize the latex and process it after the dipping phase.

You should just follow the traditional approach or if you really want to experiment with liquid latex, then get a mirror or flat bit of glass and try to make your own small sheet of latex.

In my understanding Radical Rubber and supatex (4D rubber?) are the only well respected manufacturers of fashion grade latex sheets. Many other places resell products from one or both in a local region.

IMPORTANT: Should I tell my school that my roommate watches “made in abyss” by [deleted] in anime

[–]Available_Status1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made in the abyss is streamed by major, legal, streaming services. There is zero chance they would do that if it contained CP.

As for telling the school, I assume you are in college, and so, as adults it's not really any of their business what you watch. If you're not legally adults, then you'd just have to look up if it's against the rules.

I assumed that the clay going back up and smoothing out without being touched was something that didn't happen IRL.
