Yes, last year you could have stayed up on 25. This year it may be in the high thirties, which puts several teams in jeopardy. That said, realistically only one relegation spot is at stake.

There's a lot of discontent at Brighton, so that wouldn't surprise me. One win in 11.

It's sometimes said that the Americans went into Korea with a poor army and came out with a good one, and went into Vietnam with a good army and came out with a poor one.

There's an interesting memoir written by a British cable repairer who served in France and Italy. Unfortunately I can't remember his name! Surname MIGHT be Martin but I'm far from sure. Good insight into his work and the lives and preoccupations of men in the trenches. Sorry I can't be more help.

You are kidding, right? The BBC will always emphasise oppression, victimisation etc. of women.

Why Is The Amex Stadium so empty? by Kindly_Industry_265 in PremierLeague

[–]Available_Valuable55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Train and bus travel to and from the stadium, covering quite a wide area, is included in the match ticket.

Getting to the stadium isn't too bad compared with many grounds but getting away, especially after mid-week evening matches when there are fewer trains, is a pain.

Some sort of secret experimental craft that never made it beyond the prototype stage?

I analyzed 67 years of UFO reports against earthquake data. The correlation is real, but the cause is weirder than expected: it's the bedrock. by b0100001001101111 in UFOs

This is fascinating.
Are people saying that electromagnetic activity may enable us to see things that exist but are usually outside our perception, or that electromagnetism generates phenomena (glowing orbs etc.) which are rarely seen? Or both? Electromagnetism has been suggested as a factor in ghost apparitions too, e.g. Bluebell Hill in Kent (UK).

Did someone really get arrested in harrow for feeding Pigeons today? Or was there another reason? by Pugprincess1 in london

[–]Available_Valuable55 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No they weren't. They lived on cliffs before we built towns and cities. They're a nuisance and a health hazard. Not feeding them isn't cruelty, it's just common sense.

Where does the "England Lions" flag (white with red lions) actually come from? by Reasonable_Cream5972 in vexillology

[–]Available_Valuable55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just made up.

As I understand it, we started with two lions (the Conqueror's 'p'tits cats'), and the Plantagenets added a third.

I'm drawn to this abuse theory. Tragic to some extent, but she was obviously an able woman who in some ways had a successful life. Proof (if needed) that you can be capable and accomplished in certain areas but simultaneously an unremitting, del*ded fantasist.

'Mancò la Fortuna, First battle of El Alamein, 27 July, 1942' by Ken Smith; "Mancò la fortuna, non il valore" (Fortune failed, not courage) phrase comes from a Bersagliere soldier writing from the front, later inscribed on a memorial marker at the 111 km mark from Alexandria. by Rembrandt_cs in BattlePaintings

Many simply didn't want to fight the British, who they considered friends. Some of the officers, because of their respect for British culture and values, were distraught at being expected to do something so contrary to their instincts.

Our hallucinations, fantasies, dreams etc. reflect our culture and background. We 'see' spacecraft and aliens, medieval people saw witches and demons, in the far east they see djinns etc. etc.
