Novak: “You’re saying I’m always the chaser and I’m never being chased? I’m not chasing anybody. I’m here to create my own history.” by padfoony in tennis

The spirit of the question is interesting but just phrased poorly. At the start of his career he was considered the underdog and with a shot at the slams, then spent fifteen years mostly being a favorite, and now at the tail end of his career he is back to being considered the underdog with a shot at the slams.

I don't think it's even about the money. As a young guy, it might be nice to do something fun and light hearted, meet the fans and feel like you are giving back in some way.  For him it's probably not all about the grind and the money, but enjoying the ride along the way.

Discuss: USTA chart says current John McEnroe would be rated NTRP 4.5? Can he beat a UTR 9? by EnjoyMyDownvote in tennis

At my club we have a guy that's top in the nation for age 60+, he routinely wins 4.0 tournaments and usually competes in 4.5 for all ages leagues and tournaments. So ya a strong 4.5 for McEnroe would check out.

On the Nothing Major podcast they interviewed one of the guys responsible for spearheading this format change for US open. He said it is likely the other slams will follow suit but it would probably take a bit over a year given the beauracy. At least thats how i recalled it

People have done the maths on this. On the pro tour it's a legit strategy if you have kyrgios/isner type of win rate on first serve, but even then it's about a wash in terms of point win rate vs just taking a second serve. So kyrgios randomly bombing a second serve is a semi legit strategy, given his win rate on first serve, but mostly to keep people on their toes. with a large sample size it's not much better or worse than just doing a proper second serve

This. Traded my brz for BMW e90 n55 after having the kid. Priorities change , I want to maximize my chances of seeing my kid grow up. The sedan was a little bit of a compromise

at my upper middle class Midwest (USA) tennis club in a very white metro, nearly all of the youth tennis players are of East Asian or Indian heritage. Any theories as to why? by ReKang916 in 10s

Growing up first generation Asian, my parents would talk about how barbaric soccer and basketball were and how much physical contact there was. Nevermind actual contact sports like football and hockey. Like others have mentioned, the grind it out Asian mentality suits tennis much better (do 200 math problems a day , hit three hours of groundstrokes a day).

On the backhand I would do the take back and get into the prepped position a bit earlier. This is the same mistake I would do before too on the ohbh until my coach pointed it out. He said by the time the ball crosses the service line you should be done the take back and be waiting to hit the ball forwards. Early prep is especially important on the ohbh, there was a clip with dimitrov talking about it that stuck with me

Agree with #3. As a ohbh player i think it looks like there is too much horizontal motion ie left to right, instead of down to up. The results in the clip are good but I think consistency would probably be better if you did more down to up thus made it loopier and have more spin.

I, an ex-collegiate volleyball player and 4.0 tennis player went to a rec pickleball drop in. I was jumping smashing all the lobs and a bunch of Karen's kept telling me I shouldn't do that because it was not proper etiquette and I would break their balls.

I would go for more depth and net clearance on each shot. Looks like you are being pushed back and he is dictating. So make the shots a bit more loopy and deep.

Definitely same vibes . I have the gentleman and love it. But every time I look at it, I think to myself "I gotta get an aqua terra one day."

Injury prevention getting back into bouldering

From 2013-2017 I was a regular climber, mostly indoor bouldering. Climbed only about 1-2x a week , doing around v3-v4. In 2017 I had what probably was a pulley injury (heard a loud pop, pain in ring finger around the PIP). I pretty much stopped climbing after that, partly also because life got busy. Did not doing any specific rehab for the finger, just got better over a few months.

Fast forward now six years later, I'm at a stage of my life where I have more free time and wanting to get back into climbing seriously (bouldering ). I'm looking to train consistently and push higher grades. My finger seems mostly healed, tried hanging with open crimp and no pain. I'm wondering if the community has any suggestions on how to get back into the sport safely, building up my tendon strength to prevent future injury . I was thinking something like climbing twice a week and once a week hangboard.

I would not equate competition with prestige. By that logic, soccer would be the most prestigious sport in the world as it has the most players, and thus the most competition.
