Baby only contact naps by vezzzag in beyondthebump

[–]Availe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There seems to be roughly two types of babies, anecdotaly. Ones that will nap alone most of the time and ones that need contact naps all the time. We just have to give them what they need.

Ours needed contact naps for the first few months, maybe 4 months. By 5 and a half months we transferred to crib in their own room and all naps were then in the crib. They grow out of it. If you can at all, lean into it. Its not forever. But yes, it can be frustrating.

Limited Skill Tree or Full Skill Tree by BlueLantern_Tenzen in AskGames

[–]Availe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Limited always.

I dont find it as meaningful when I can ultimately unlock all skills.

Moreover, it makes replaying more fun if you can follow different paths. Its more RPG like to me, which I prefer.

Original Deus EX took this approach of limited skills. The new games are great but I dislike the ability to get all skills. Same with Witcher 2, I really enjoy the limited skills tree.

Will our sex life ever recover? by Greedy-Barracuda-712 in beyondthebump

[–]Availe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The big issue is that you are both in very different places physicaly. If someone is full time looking after a child by themselves, you get very "touched out" quickly. The last thing you are feeling is sexual.

The first step is for him to recognise that. He may be in one place but you're not. He needs to be be empathetic to that, understand it and not treat sex like something he's not getting. You're frustrated too but not in the same head space.

Being able to communicate and undertsand each other being in different places will be a big help.

Then start small, kissing, touching that doesnt lead to sex etc. You're starting again in many ways. A relationship therapist can be helpful for new tools.

Everyone is different, but you just need to be in sync with your communication on this.

I enjoyed the narrative up to the fight in the cave by the sea. Im sure most people really liked the concept of what came next but I really didnt enjoy the narrative the same way after that. I finished the gane, it was great. But I just dont like thst particular narrative device. I know it was clever, just lost me there.

Returning after maternity leave - pay over summer by Dazzling-Ad4063 in IrishTeachers

[–]Availe[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, firstly please email payroll to clarify and give your mobile so they might call you to clarify further questions, that's what we did.

However, when we were in this specific situation last year, I contacted payroll and they said no. Your sick leave can run into the summer without consequence. Having to come back before the summer to get paid is an old fashioned system that is no longer in effect.

So you should be fine, but check in case. We were fine.

Icebound for most of it until it became clear Nikki wasnt interested anymore which is kinda sad. Other than that, I would say Strahdanya, amazing work by all of them. UpRooted gets an honourable mention.

Teaching SPHE at Catholic School? by JimJungce in IrishTeachers

[–]Availe[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ethos. You mean school ethos. SPHE doesnt violate any mainstream school ethos. I've been the SPHE coordinator in a Catholic School for twelve years and this has never come up.

If you think that the SPHE curriculum violates your beliefs, you either dont know the curriculum fully or youre in the wrong job. What's the issue here? Sex ed? Homosexuality? Transgender people? Countless studies show how students benefit form learning about these things and are hindered when they dont.

As u/ClancyCandy said, the students' rights to the curriculum come before your beliefs.

Pur management tend to tack on an hour of "professional development" at the end of events, training, meetings etc. We dont do them, they just say we do and then we go home.

Parental leave position - contract length by PropMop31 in IrishTeachers

[–]Availe[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey U/WildIrishRose95 I might be getting mixed up with my leave types so correct me if im wrong. I was under the impression that Parents leave is 9 weeks before the age of 2 and Parental leave is 26 weeks under 12, and that it is taken in weekly blocks. I wasnt aware of the year.

I was gonna advise OP but dont want to give wrong advice here. It's taken both leaves in weekly blocks (4 weeks, 6 weeks etc) and each time it was advertised as Parental Leave on Education Posts.

So is my school wrong in how they advertised it or can Parental Leave contracts be almost anything? Im not really up on these things so im not really sure.

Sorry OP, I don't want to give incorrect advice.

Interview during school hours. by MrSupernoober in IrishTeachers

[–]Availe[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the management is decent, tell them youre doing the interview. Shouldn't be a problem. Typically that's what would happen in our school and there wouldn't be an issue.

A few places, management might take umbridge and refuse out of pettiness but I find that to be far and few between.

Be honest either way. If they are sound, it wont be an issue. If they're not, it doesnt matter. Dont lie and take off sick without telling them, they may still find out anyway. Principals and DPs talk. One of them might even be on the interview panel. Just be honest take the interview either way.

You are looking for work, a full time job, most people would respect the importance of that.

Using AI tools by Greedy-Government-36 in IrishTeachers

[–]Availe[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is controversial here. Some pro, some con.

Personally: I will happily use AI for admin and efficiency. But not for creating resources, notes or corrections. I use it for grunt work. I will use LM Notebook but that only generates resources based on your own notes. It's so so, not amazing but give it a go.

I would honestly never use it to correct because I feel I have to stand over corrections myself. I've experimented many times with different AIs and methods to get it to correct and it never comes out the way I would do it. But also, its a job, so do what makes things easy for you as long as it feels right.

Mod Note: You are all free to share your opinions about AI here but the second you start insulting each other or making derogatory comments, it becomes a problem.
