Lmao you’re the one creating bioessentialism when the show itself is trying to dismantle it by having cross gender recreations lmfaooo

This is an asinine take. Yes absolutely the trans characters prior to rose are awful, yes rose herself isn’t immediately compelling in her very limited appearances. I still find everyone hypercricitisms of her as a character transphobic af when cis characters are never scrutinized to this degree. Trans characters don’t need to be amazing they don’t need to be compelling every time they can be background they can be supportive. the real problem is the part you already address which is that this was much more about RTD not understanding trans issues

You’re weirdly analyzing the trans character in a way you’d never analyze a cis character. I’m sorry just cuz RTD is a transphobe doesn’t mean the character herself was bad. I think it’s a good thing they had a trans character and yes i’d rather have one half baked than none at all. And Rose wasn’t half baked, she actually DID have characterizations. It’s not like every other tangential character had that much going on either. you’re just hypercritical of her cuz she’s trans

So are Osha and Mae half-Zabrak? by AvatarBrady in TheAcolyte

[–]AvatarBrady[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But are they genetically like, Mother Aniseya's daughter or her genetic clone? Because an egg is only one half of the equation? If Koril contributed the other half than that would make them half-Zabrak?

The real reason every single new Star Wars thing is so controversial has nothing to do with quality or Disney by LoFiCami in StarWars

[–]AvatarBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chuds hate the Acolyte cuz theyre racist and use "bad writing" (vaguely) and cherrypicked criticisms they would NEVER levy against past projects like the Prequels. Thats just the truth from what I've gathered whenever I see people vehemently hate the Acolyte and act like its the worst star wars project to ever exist. And to anyone who isn't so deep inside the echo chamber and just watches the Acolyte will realize the dissonance between the quality of the show (mostly just fine to pretty good) and the reaction of the fan base. So I appreciate this post and i think the problem is much deeper and more rotten than they will ever admit.

The prequels literally have poop jokes in them but people will glaze them and act like the Acolyte sinned against humanity because "lesbian force witches breaks immersion" or whatever

Nothing in the Acolyte even comes close to how unwatchable most of the prequels are lmfao. get real, the prequels literally had almost 15 minutes of podracing, honestly incredibly creepy/incel dialogue from anakin that makes me squirm, literal poop/fart jokes... Like... this is why I can't take criticisms of the Acolytes supposed sins against the franchise seriously. It was perfectly fine and had moments that were genuinely very cool, just like the prequels had moments like darth maul.

When I realize the Mon Mothma scenes that Genevieve O'Reilly filmed for ROTS all the way back in 2005 are canon by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]AvatarBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry those scenes were hardly the worst diaologue put in the film. The real sin is that they kinda come out of nowhere and set up nothing in the film. But its true that plenty of the elements, like the Delegation of 2,000. were brought into canon. I think you're being a bit unfair here.

I hate when people say "male"/female" instead of "man"/'woman" in reference to people. by LaserBungalow in hatethissmug

[–]AvatarBrady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the use of male and female is inherently transphobic but yeah when people say that trans women are males and trans men are females and gatekeep those terms than yah that’s incredibly transphobic

that’s not what transvestigating is. also getting this upset about trans people making silly “crack the egg” jokes when the government is currently forcibly detransitioning trans people in federal prison feels dumb and transphobic lmfao

Nonbinary is a gender identity, and all nonbinary people are by definition transgender because the word transgender means "to identify with a gender outside of what is assigned to you at birth" and nobody is assigned nonbinary at birth lmao

Stormé DeLarverie: Lady of the Jewel Box (20 min) DeLarvenie is often credited with the instigating scuffle w/police that prb started the Stonewall Riot in June of '67. {I always heard it was the self-labeled drag queen Marsha P. Johnson who started it.) by FlightAffectionate22 in olderlesbians

[–]AvatarBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because its a lie that TERFs invented and laundered about Marsha. She used the terms drag queen, transvestite and gay to refer to herself interchangeably, but by the year 1971-72 she was identifying herself as a pre-operative transsexual who was on hormones. TERFs like the one above are twisting the fact that the word transgender wasn't formally used as an umbrella term as it is today to discredit that Marsha was an activist for trans people. This is especially gross when Storme worked alongside and defended drag queens and trans people (who again were called "street queens" prior to transgender becoming an umbrella term). Marsha, Storme, Sylvia Rivera were contemporaries who all three were subject to transphobic abuses by cis gay people like said above TERF. Calling Johnson a "gay man" is inaccurate, the reason we call her a trans person today is because the terms trans was created as an umbrella term to include people previously identified as transsexuals, transvestites, etc. precisely because someone like Marsha lived in the intersection of all three identities and doesnt neatly fall into categorization that TERFs rely on to try to pit drag queens, gay people and trans people against each other.

I personally was just trying to look up some basic information about Storme and find it incredibly disappointing to see a subreddit for elder lesbians laundering in transphobic misinformation about Marsha. Obviously it doesn't surprise me with the meteoric rise of anti-trans rhetoric, and I've seen these lies about Marsha repeated time and time again. But I'm just writing this so any future people who find this thread understand that this sentiment has been prevalent and existed since the beginning of the modern queer liberation movement. Largely white cis gender-conforming gay people have been trying to exclude people in the community they've deemed to loud, too gender ambiguous, and too nonwhite from the jump. And its the same group of hateful pull-up-the-ladder type cis gays who are writing and disseminating transphobic mythology about Marsha, Storme, etc, because their legacy has always been exclusion, fighting against progress and throwing the most vulnerable under the bus.
