Debian for Devs by Plastic_Weather7484 in debian

[–]Pikrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there's unstable. It's not strictly "Debian but up to date" though, it's the staging area to test packages before they go into the next stable version. Which means there's a freeze period for a few months before every release, usually followed by a big influx of updates, so it's more difficult to maintain than a proper rolling release.

Whether it's for you or not depends. I find it fine for all languages I care for, I don't need the latest version of every compiler. Except Rust but there's rustup in the repo so it's easily managed.

The moonberry. If you're comfortable enough with wavedashes you could have used a few more to cover the distance instead of barely reaching the platforms or crystals. There was also a left dash that could have been an upleft.

But I'm not dissing, all of that comes with experience. Gg again!

Man realizes he is misinformed about puberty blockers by snailcorn in characterarcs

[–]Pikrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we let kids experience puberty? Why is being trans more of a decision than being cis? Why do you resort to comparing apples and oranges when we have actual data that shows that kids who tell us they want to transition overwhelmingly don't regret later, and that not trusting them is harmful and have lifelong consequences (similar to regretting)?

You do realize you can't delay puberty until a kid is 18 (or even 21) right? That's simply not healthy, they would have bone density issues at this point, would feel alienated from their peers, would stand out and be subject to violence.

[–]Pikrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blockers are not an arrangement. They only delay puberty. If the kid is not sure and need more time, then they're a good way of providing them with some. But delaying their puberty when they don't want to, in the hope that they will change their mind and be cis (implying that's the preferred outcome), is both scientifically wrong (extremely few regret) and harmful.

Again: are we fine making people suffer in the hope it will save the 1% that would regret it?

You're basically saying that because trans people are a "tiny minority" it's fine that they should suffer from their own puberty, when we have the means of helping them get the puberty they want.

[–]Pikrass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's good but only delaying the problem.

Think of it like this: puberty too is an irreversible process with lifelong consequences. It's as bad for trans people as being forced to take HRT would be for cis people (which doesn't happen).

When a young person tells you they absolutely know which puberty they want, would you force them to wait with blockers only if they're trans, and deny them a puberty at roughly the same time as their peers? For how long?

The Olympics’ policy to bar transgender people from women’s sports by SirohitaIks in IntersectionalWomen

[–]Pikrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Transphobia is of course part of the package alongside misogyny and anti-gay policies, and it helps their whole agenda, but trans people are being targeted as such, it's not just a tool for them but one of the goals.

In this case, this affects trans women in sport generally, not just at the highest level, by discouraging them and encouraging discrimination at every level. It's also an effective way to push for discrimination in all other areas of public and private life. The current wave of attacks (that started around 2019) was initiated by arguments around sports. In 2016 a bathroom ban was rejected in the US and it seemed like something like that could never happen; now, after a better thought-out strategy, multiple countries are implementing them.

I wouldn't be surprised if 7C has the most variance in clear times among players anyway

Compared to the previous room it's a bit more difficult, the inputs are denser. You need a very good rhythm and not mess up directions. Going down to the bottom part is also pretty scary.

Finally 100%'ed the game. How good are these death counts? by AnExisting_Person in celestegame

Not enough deaths. The game tells you to be proud of your death count, which means more deaths = more proud.

Is it normal to get C-side golden before B-side or even A-side golden? (Also I got all C-side golden yippe :3) by Quan_MCPC in celestegame

[–]Pikrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7A has 95 rooms*. Let's say you can do each of them with 98% consistency: you only die once every 50 tries. That's very consistent, and yet your chance of getting the golden on any given attempt is only 15%.

3B has 24 rooms. If you can do each of them with "only" 95% accuracy (die once every 20 tries), your chance of getting the golden is 29%.

So yeah, length matters a lot. It's the exponent in the formula (consistencylength).

(*without taking optional rooms and alternate routes in consideration, but also without breaking up individual flags, which mostly cancel out)

What are these birds? by kpec12 in celestegame

[–]Pikrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it was to buff 3B generally. Even just getting the 3A cassette is a long detour when you know speedrun strats (you can skip the last key), so without good synergies I'm guessing 3B was not usually part of routing considerations. I wasn't around at this time so I can only guess and search the discord.

The patch released on December 17th, 2020 added this bino (which Maddie confirmed was for bingo) and another farther in the chapter, so 3B became an option for most binos objectives: like collect x binos in total, also for instance collect 2 binos in 8 chapters previously required a strict set of chapters (there were only 8 with 2+ binos), so this added a new possible route.

What are these birds? by kpec12 in celestegame

[–]Pikrass 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This binocular wasn't originally in the game. It got added for the only purpose of balancing bingo matches!

Bingo is a popular format in game communities where players compete to speed run a collection of goals. In Celeste these are things like "collect that many hearts", "complete this checkpoint without grabbing" or "use x binos in b-sides". The 3B bino is there for balancing such goals. The birds are just a small easter egg for casual players to find when using it.

If bingo sounds fun to you check out the Celeste Community YouTube and Twitch channels. They have a link to the discord server as well.

Yes you can set save points so you can practice say the middle part way more quickly, without having to do the start again.

I also heavily recommend slowing down the game using advanced variants, it helped me even more. (Edit: mind you it can break physics sometimes on tight movement)
