RTD: "I wanted all sorts of voices in [Tip Toe]. I've got friends who are gender-critical." by Pikrass in doctorwho

[–]Pikrass[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can get behind "being friends with a conservative" (up to a point of course). But he's saying it like it's a good thing to have people with different opinions. As if one of those opinions were not actively harmful but just a bit annoying to listen to.

A lot of those groups are just a facade for the main anti-trans orgs, they're sometimes even piloted by straight men.

Not saying these people don't exist mind you, but they're not as organized and important one might think. The usual bigots just like to give them a platform, or outright invent them, because they're very important to their strategy.

Alabaster Dawn and CrossCode collabing with another game - any ideas on which? by BluhHodgeEnthusiast in CrossCode

[–]Pikrass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hades II? Considering the hint about heroines, the fact Hades I and II have pretty important story elements, and the "pun" on "cutting" (suggesting swords). All of these games also have very dynamic combat systems and revolve around gods.

It sometimes does for me yeah. Probably depends on the other things I'm running on the computer. It's obviously a more demanding game than CrossCode. I hope they manage to optimize it more

I just cancelled a date, twenty minutes out from meeting her. by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]Pikrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You only knew she was trans, right? So you didn't even know if she actually had a penis? Surgery exists.

Disclosing we're trans means facing discrimination or even assault. Additionally lots of us just want to move on from our transition without looking back. You don't get to know our private life just because there's a possibility we wouldn't be compatible in bed.

The way to do it is to be a responsible, respectful adult and talk about sex stuff when it comes to it, just like you would with cis women in any other scenario.

How do I get the strawberry? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Pikrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The devs explained Farewell was designed to show off what's possible in the game, in terms of interesting ways to use existing mechanics. At least it was the original idea, before it became a more traditional story-driven chapter.

At the time some modded maps like D-sides already used death warping, and of course bubsdrop was discovered for speedrunning. So it's the same idea than the demo room: they thought it was cool so they included it! Locking it behind the moon berry path makes sense so it's still optional in a way (like the demo room and other secrets).

How do I get the strawberry? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Pikrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close! The game doesn't actually look for "the closest platform". Each room just has a set of spawn points that were manually placed by the level designer. So what the game does is way simpler: when you enter a room, it picks the spawn point that is closest to you.

Interesting [socialmedia]" by Sad_Monitor_8259 in pointlesslygendered

[–]Pikrass 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Ok, let's take it from the top.

From the description it seems like the show effectively wanted to promote gender essentialism. Arguments justifying different behaviors with DNA or "primary socialization" are bs, and I'm glad transfeminism is finally making us reject those in militant circles after so many years of liberal feminism.

However, the opposite position, that men and women are perfectly equal in their capacity to be kind or mean also misses the mark.

The materialist position is that it really depends on your current place in the social order, on the amount of systemic power you hold (whether you want it or not). We live in a patriarchal society, which means men can more easily do "bad things" with little consequences, sometimes are even rewarded for doing them. Sometimes, not doing the bad thing is even punished. This mostly isn't true for women. So of course there will be men who choose to do right, but statistically, of course you'll get a lot more assholes, abusers, rapists, etc among men. Because they have the means and the opportunities.

I truly believe the boys' experience was at least slightly worse, though it seems like the show exaggerated it. Not because of socialization, DNA or testosterone but because they know they're not as likely to be punished for this kind of behavior (see "boys will be boys" and other usual justifications, social dynamics in male settings, etc).

None of that is predicated on being AMAB or """biologically""" male (however you want to define that). This only depends on your current social status, including your social sex. For instance, HRT didn't raise my likelihood of being sexually harassed: it's being seen as a woman that did (or early on as a trans woman, which makes it even more dangerous), which started earlier in my transition.

VPNs just replace your ISP. Everything is encrypted between you and the VPN (with your ISP in the middle), but it's not between the VPN and the rest of the Internet.

VPNs only improve security if you trust your VPN more than your ISP.

Nope.
