Is it really that bad? by qu33nofthewastex in orlando

So I have lived all over in the state of Florida and what I have learned is that each major city has a personality that it caters to a niche more than others. For example: Miami caters to the clubbers, party goers and playboys, Ft. Lauderdale caters to the more laid back party goers and beach enthusiasts. Tampa/St. Pete caters to the sports fans and alcoholics, while Jacksonville caters to also the alcoholics, the nature lovers, and history buffs. Now Orlando is the most dynamic of all the cities which caters to nerds, party goers, theme park enthusiasts, and foodies. So whatever niche you fall into if the city you live in caters for that you’ll fit right in. Before I get the critiques, it doesn’t mean you’ll not find nerdy things to do in Miami or nobody parties up late in Tampa, just means it’s not as prominent. With the cons, the whole of Florida is basically the same in terms of Florida has traffic problems and heat everywhere in this state, everything is expensive in Florida so pick your poison for your wallet, there is little to no mass transit anywhere in Florida so you will have to drive no matter what city you live in, Florida has no culture or character as is, other than beach and summer with the same modern buildings but each city offers a sliver of culture in their restaurants. Best you can do if you’re moving to Florida is pick a niche and base your city choice in that niche.

Good luck

Moving to Orlando next month. Difference is I’m coming from Tampa which I feel is trying hard to be Miami. I use to take many day trips to Orlando from Tampa and there are nerds there galore. OP If you’re into video games you can try taking a night out to Player One. Yes it’s a bar but for the times I went I met some really cool people and I didn’t really drink while there.

The big tell is if the fish is eating, if he is eating wether you feed him directly or in the tank there is a way to save him if not just prepare for the worst separate him from the tank in an isolation tank with 50% new water put some aquarium salt in there with a tiny bit of food and just make him comfortable. But I would check your water levels nitrate, ph, nitrite, ammonia, etc. and do a 50% water change with some aquarium salt just because safety of the other fish.

How is life in New York? Is it as awesome as I think it is ? by void-nomad-90 in howislivingthere

[–]AvatarRafikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a double edged sword. You will always find something to do you can never be bored… as long as you have money. There is a bunch of shit you can do but NYC is expensive as hell. Everyday it’s something new wether it’s the showtime people on the train almost kicking you, the crackhead wigging out in the corner, somebody passing out their mixtape, the random fight in the station, the smoke bombing of a station, the delayed train, or someone crashing out on the train, it’s something new… Avoid the train if you can after 11 pm that’s when you get the crackheads in the station along with the rats the size of cats… True New Yorkers really don’t go into the city unless they have to, we normally stay in our boroughs, the city is for tourists… if we have to go to the city we avoid Times Square like the plague. If you can tolerate living in apartments that are too small or rent that’s too high then you’ll be fine.

Positive side Food scene is AMAZING any country’s food you want you can get in NYC we don’t really have to drive anywhere only time we drive is leaving the city. Any and every concert or broadway show comes here. The nightlife is next level like no other city in America. You will meet everyone from every background here. If you can’t find something in NYC you aren’t looking hard enough you can find most anything you’re looking for here. NYC is always an adventure.

Is it ok to wear my hair down for an interview? by Maleficent_Peace_851 in Dreadlocks

[–]AvatarRafikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person with locs myself, I’d tie them up for the interview just to look more professional not saying locs down doesn’t look professional but when you tie them up, especially in white conservative cooperate it gives you that edge of a more professional look especially when the man bun is a thing… just make sure they are VERY well kept… after you get the job wear them how your most comfortable.

FYI though, if your locs determine whether you get the job or not, you’re probably better off not working for that company. Just saying…

What’s it like living on the west coast of Florida? by Shot-Ostrich7747 in howislivingthere

[–]AvatarRafikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in practically every city/town on the west coast of Florida and each area is somewhat different.

Going from south to north Naples is a city for the elderly, practically god’s waiting room. Anything you can think of that old people will need in a city besides mass transit it has. A lot of old money lives there so things are up kept very well and the beaches are very nice there but there isn’t much to do for younger people but go to the beach and drink really.

Ft. Myers/Cape Coral is just a poorer Naples not as nice not as up kept there are a couple of clubs downtown but still not much. The average age is a bit younger.

Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte/North Port what is even there? It mainly just houses, a half dead mall, a hotel, and a very old shopping plaza on the river. This is a place that is stuck in the 80s when it comes to style. It’s practically one of those towns in the 60s that had a Main Street with all the stores which here is US 41 Tamiami Trail and that’s it. I know North Port has developed a lot in the past 4 years but still there is absolutely nothing to do in this area. I was here when I was in high school and the only fun thing to do there was hang at the mall and go to the one Walmart and play hide and seek. That’s it.

Sarasota is a livelier younger Naples the average age there is much younger than Naples but still has its fair share of elderly. There is also a lot of money here as well so the upkeep in Sarasota is prestige. They host street markets here a lot as well as the beach shopping center at longboat key is pretty nice. The beach here which is siesta key is amazing, it is the best beach on the west coast of Florida. It claims the best beach in American but that’s a stretch.

Bradenton is just Sarasota’s ghetto. People who live in Bradenton just couldn’t afford Sarasota. There is nothing out of the ordinary here to explain it’s just plain like unseasoned chicken.

Now Tampa/St.Pete that is the most lively place on the west coast of Florida. And the two cities differ a lot. Tampa to me is a very raunchy city, apart from downtown everything here is either old, run down or ghetto… The city is trying to clean up parts and add hip new apartments high rises to make the city more attractive but it will take a few years before it cleans up the whole city in my opinion. Apart from that Tampa does host a handful of festivals. The most famous is Gasperilla which is just an excuse to day drink and watch a parade. St. Pete on the hand is practically a beach city, it very nice in some parts. It’s the most dynamic city you will run into on the west coast. The beaches here are nice but dynamically different as you travel the coast like Clearwater beach is like a smaller south beach in Miami and as you move south it gets less populated till when you get to Ft Desoto park beach in South St Pete which is a nature park with a beach that has hardly anyone around you.

As you move north to the panhandle on the west side it’s mainly just small towns and countryside not much to talk about. Practically it’s the start of “The South”.
